Microsoft is now blocking Windows 7 and 8.1 updates on Ryzen and Kaby Lake systems

I guess in your world everything is 100% litteral? You don't call it a bully tactic because your feelings get hurt...........

Of course it's the users choice, if MS tells you, "we don't support this software anymore", you can't turn around and expect them to help you out with your problems regarding the software, however, it's your choice to still use this software, and them actively going in and telling you, we can't block you from installing it, but what we will do is make sure that you can't get the updates currently available, why? Because we'd rather you pay us for our most ad-filled Windows yet, and no other reason.

I don't know where you read this as me saying something similar to "the customer is always right", again it's not one of those things you take literally, it's meant as to say that since it's the customer who pays he/she's the one you listen to when it comes to asking them to pay, unfortunately for all of us, MS is a monopoly pretty much, so they can completely ignore this rule, as we see, especially when there's apologists who lets them get away with everything.

of course its a bullying tactic by blocking they are actively trying to force users to move from windows 7/8/8.1 on to 10.

They stated even before the hardware was out they wouldn't support it. This isn't supporting it. If people don't see that coming that's on them. It's forcing the people who want the latest hardware to be on the latest OS. As it should be. Why do it the other way around? Mine as well run Zen on XP at that point.

It's more like people getting upset that they aren't getting what they want rather than a big company using its "muscles". Again they said they won't support it. They are quite literally doing exactly that.

Actually no they are doing more than not supporting the OS, they have a legal obligation to provide support on Windows 8 and 8.1 till End of Life. The fact they are going to prevent any updates for any aspect of the OS is bully tactics no matter how you paint it.
There is a clear difference between not supporting something and blocking all updates.
At no point in the past have MS taken to blocking ALL updates they just simply stopped uploading updates at a set date (End of Life) and everyone was fine with that.
All they should be doing is stop updates one the product becomes End of Life until then they are legally obliged to provide updates regardless of hardware.

Do they really have a legal obligation? Legit question - not being rude - I just can't think of a precedent.

I think the difference is that they have agreed to provide updates for everything that was out at the time W7 and 8.1 were for sale and was supported/certified.

Now the CPU environment has evolved slightly and they're saying Ryzen/Kaby are not officially supported products so no updates for people that get the old OS working on the new hardware.

They never claimed Ryzen or Kaby would support W7/8.1. There may be things that just dont' work properly. There may be things that will require a lot of development to ensure they're not compromised. Dollars better spent not pandering to people that like to put old software on new hardware.

There was a similar discussion with a dude that was complaining that the new Direct X 12 (IIRC) wouldn't work on his GTX 460 or something. It's the same principle but with reversed hardware/software

You know this is pretty realistic. If they didn't block the updates and then one of those updates killed your PC who would you blame? (ok its a bit extreme but it could happen).
Imagine you lost all your data because of an update. then you are all over facepalm and twatter screaming and shouting about how you no longer have photos of your baby or parents that are no longer here. This is a cop out don't get me wrong but Microsoft have said they are winding these OS' down. and just like the XP argument, its tuff titties. either stick with what you have or go with the software that supports it.

There is a clear difference between not supporting and blocking updates, If I used Windows 7 on a kaby lake and in 6 months time my PC broke because of that combo then its my fault as I willingly used it with the full knowledge it was "not supported" What MS are doing is actually blocking ALL updates period and they are doing so before it is end of life and yes MS are committed to providing support for Windows 8 till it reaches end of life.
MS should be treating Win 7-8 as they did with previous OS and simply stop supporting at a given point in time.
Go look at the % stats on windows 10 up take and it is clear why MS are doing this. Win 10 as not been adopted as they had hoped and that is even despite offering it for free for a 12 months. MS make their money on Windows 10 3rd party forced apps and the mined data. That and their aim to sandbox gamers into the windows app store in the future.

Thats how microsoft is forcing piracy.

If the user got a valid copy of windows 7 and downloads from 3rd parties all the updates?

Officially and legaly microsoft is OBLIGED to provide security updates for windows 7 and 8.1 until their extended support period is over for each product, however, the "new features" period has ended for both windows 8.1 and windows 7 ... that means support for a new cpu is a "feature" so if they choose not to support said cpu then you can't take them to court... Especially when everything that works in win 7 will work on 10 and windows 7 to 10 is a free upgrade
