memory selection for x79 help please

Hi guys @ gals,
i am in the process of putting together a new build and have not purchased my memory yet
the bulk of my work is rendering with light gaming now and again.
i have a asrock x79 fatal1ty champion mother board with 3 - gigabyte 670 in tripple sli and i74930k , i already had 2 cards and purchased a third cheaply .

i have a x58 board & 17 980 hex core with 24gb ram and max that out rendering that is why i have gone to x79 for more ram.

On the 1366 platform lower latency timings meant faster speeds i wish to obtain better performance and wish to put 64gb ram in the x79 and get the max performance out of it , please correct me if i am wrong but with ivy bridge e are latency's not that important anymore ?, would i better off running a faster speed ram for my needs other than 1600mhz and if so what sort of ram voltages out of the box would be better , 1.5v or lower?\
64gb ram will be costly so i do not want to waste my money ?
originally i was going to get low latency ram but after research opinions vary with ivy bridge e and now i'm more confused than ever

thankyou for your help

thankyou for your advice dalewakelin

I don't mean to annoy anyone here , i probably have bothered everyone enough but could someone please give me a definition of bandwidth and what will help me with ram selection for rendering. I understand latency's and ram speed
i understand capacity of ram with 64gb i will have no problems , i have a ivy bridge e 4930k hex core on x79 platform , will faster cpu speed give me better bandwidth or faster gpu speed i am still a little in the dark here guys

Bandwith is related to MHz.An oc`ed cpu will perform better when rendering with higher ram-MHz.Ram speed is related to timings(latency),lower is normally best.Ivy-B are better with higher MHz.

Thanks so much for the reply kilobravo
i think i understand now ,
if i bought 64gb of 2133mhz ram , from a reputable manufacturer
ie. mushkin , corsair, gskill at 1.5v and enabled xmp settings,
overclocked my cpu to say 4.2ghz as a stable 24/7 overclock
i should be good to go and this will be much better for me than memory at
the native 1600mhz with low timings and stock cpu speed @ 3.4ghz.

Just been trying different memory settings, speeds, CPU clocks and running the Physics test in 3dmark11.

I used a 3960X CPU but a 4930k behaves the same way

RAM Timings 9-11-11-25 @1600mhz CPU @4.0 result 13313 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8089799

RAM Timings 7-8-8-22 @1600mhz CPU @4.0 result 13512 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8089737

RAM Timings 7-8-8-22 @1600mhz CPU @4.9 result 15856 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8089770

RAM Timings 9-11-11-25 @2400mhz CPU @4.0 result 13993 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8089756

RAM Timings 9-11-11-25 @2400mhz CPU @4.9 result 16562 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8089784

OP if you are going to use 64gb of RAM this could effect the maximum memory speed you can use.

thankyou kaapstad
you have gone to a lot of trouble to help me and i appreciate your efforts
very much :),
Thanks also to all who have helped me:)
This gives me a better idea as how cpu speed and ram mhz will affect rendering performance.
By all accounts i may not be able to push my cpu much beyond 4.6ghz, but i will try to get best stable 24/7 cpu speed i can, perhaps only 4.2ghz but this will be much better than stock speeds.

i am a little concerned though that 64gb of ram may affect the maximum memory speed i can use,
i will check my board manual to see if i can find any info regarding this,
i do not want to spend a large amount of money on ram and have it not work:(,
i have been scrimping and saving for over 2 years to build this system and a poor decision would really hurt ,the ram being the most expensive components of the system , like all of us i have a familly , mortgage bills etc, at this stage of the game it would take me ages to get back to this point.
If anyone has 64gb installed on x79 platform could they plz let me know what speeds they are getting out of their ram or any info on this would be awesome

cheers guys;)

Your 4930K may still need a fair bit of tweaking to get 2400mhz - the more ram you have the harder its going to be to get it to run at 2400 and tbh the more it will cost to buy too.

For most renders youll need more ram but tbh if you use more than 32GB youll be into the relms of needing a Xeon for extra cores too IMHO.

Thanks Tom ( Guv ) for the reply,
Your help and the help of the oc3d members has been outstanding , i can't thank you guys enough .
I have came to a decision.
I will no longer try for 64gb of ram , it will be too costly to achieve something that may cause heartache and stress. If i have to wait for rendering times at the end of the day it won't really kill me i won't exactly turn into a skeleton waiting lol . I was trying to save money and utilize components i already had.
I will put 32gb ram in my system and be happy with that. I will put the money i had set aside for the extra ram toward a system in the future, work hard and save for something better.
Don't get me wrong though i will be happy with my system and who knows what the future will bring with ddr4 ,new motherboards ,cpu's ,operating systems etc
It would be nice to be rolling in money but saving will make it more worthwhile.
In the meantime i can keep up with technology by watching OC3Dtv you do
a great job tom keep it up m8.
Thanks to you guys i have a much clearer idea of what i am looking for in the future and if i need help i know exactly where to come ( The Overclock 3D Forums )

Cheers Guys
all the best
