memory latency

Right, well I now can't afford a nice new rig until probably some time in the summer, but my comp is ok except for bf2 load times so I want 2GB of ram.

2GB of cas3 value corsair is only £117, but 2GB of cas2 PC3200 stuff is £160....is the cas2 worth it?

There was a time when I would say hell yeah to most people, but i can't find any links for comparisons between the two. I currently have 1GB of low latency stuff, so is 2GB of cas3 definitely better...but is it worth the extra?

platform is nforce2, XP mobile at 200Mhz FSB.

My student gut says cas3 is perfectly fine if i can't notice 2 to 3% especially as at least i'll be in dual ddr...but the other me says cas1.5 ;)

Cas2 IS much better than cas3 - no question and if you can buy a nice system why skimp?

It might be immediately noticable, in fact if you just use office then cas3 will be fine, the cas 2 will be overclockable too ;)

I agree fully with what mav said. I've already spent hundreds more than I expected to spend on my new rig just because I want the best I can get, I'm not prepared to skimp on it this time cos I made that mistake last time. Take my RAM, I have 2 sets of RAM for mine just because I want to get the best outa the system and 2 sets means I'm twice as likely to get good results.

As they say, you get what you pay for :)

You see, I agree with that - but I am prepared to skimp as I'll probably get a new comp some time in late May, early june anyway.

Interesting you should mention overclocking, but I currently have PC4000 sticks, but the board+cpu are limited at 200Mhz FSB.

But if you guys will say I will notice the difference...................

Oooh, I found some kingmax cas 2.5 sticks for £120........never used kingmax though.

IT's either that or £165 for crucial sticks, or £160 for g.skill.

meep, I better start saving my money pretty sharpish because if you have 0 income :'(

I got the gskill zx does up to 255fsb 5,2,3,2.5cas or 200 @ 5,2,3,2 now not all sticks will do the same speeds the hz is supposed to clock higher but these I have are pukka

that's fine lol - remember my board and cpu won't go above 200Mhz FSB in dual ddr mode so I don't need 255fsb loler - good luck on pushing them further though. that's pretty damn good at ddr510 though. Methinks I'll go for the zxes. I'll buy it at the end of the term so I don't spend too much on bf2 because it loads faster :P

£159 from a store that shall not be named for the zxes, hmmm.

Still, I'm intrigued about the kingmaxes - gonna have a trawl through other forums to find more about them.

I wouldn't touch the kingmax's myself,i have tried some older ones and wasn't impressed.I always found crucial to be good value ram. There must be plenty of value ram that can run cas 2 at 200.

They seem to all be cas3 for 1GB sticks....I have tried on other pcs to put cas3 stuff down to cas2 and mostly they only go to 2.5.

Im pretty sure Corsair do a set of CAS2 Value RAM, can't remember where I saw it tho, wasnt to badly priced either, about £132 if i remember rightly.
