Media PC Build

Hi all. I have returned :o

Looking at a cheap media pc build to go under the tv for:

  • Streaming services
  • Bluray playback
  • Maybe some emulators
  • Maybe steam streaming??
  • But yeh, mainly streaming movies, sports and later down the line live tv

Planning on XBMC. Maybe having the option to beef it up in the future would be good. Not likely to happen :) Never gone AMD before but it seems to hit the right price.

So far
AMD A4-5300 3.40GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Dual Core Processor
ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+ Motherboard
4GB (2x2GB) Corsair Vengeance Jet Black Low Profile 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Dual/Quad Channel Kit [CML4GX3M2A1600C9]
Cooler Master Elite 130 Mini ITX Case - Black

Basely loosely on a recent lifehacker page. As said, never gone AMD and also generally dislike asrock unless these are "ok".

Already have some ATX PSUs hanging about and also a 1.5tb hdd.

Oh and nice to see you all again :)

Gigabyte GA-AM1M-S2H AMD FS1b (Socket AM1) Micro ATX Motherboard

ARIAnet Verso Slim HTPC SFF Black Desktop Micro-ATX Case w/ 300W Power Supply & Card Reader

AMD APU Athlon 5350 Kabini 2.05GHz Quad Core Processor (AD5350JAHMBOX)

Crucial 8GB (1x8GB) 1600MHz DDR3

A 1tb drive I had lying about and Win 8.1 I had in stock

Items Total £ 128.17

Seems to run XBMC fine and just getting it all tweaked now. Gonna try steam streaming this weekend but all in all (apart from the stock amd heatsink being a PITA) very impressed by the price of these parts. The motherboard and CPU cost literally £60!
