Cheap bedroom rig.

Good afternoon people, how you all doing? I've been away for a bit with family stuff, but I'm slowly getting some time back to myself, and I'm thinking about building a basic bedroom rig, mainly for media use, like Youtube/movies, all that usual time wasting stuff people used to do on TV's.

My budget is around £350/£400 and preferably ITX, I don't need an Os, peripherals, or a monitor, I've got all that knocking about. I'll be using Overclockers Uk, so all items ideally would be in stock, also I should have mentioned the possibility of upgrading my main rig, to the green team, so I would prefer this to be able to be upgraded in line with that, to stream games to the bedroom, so it does need to be not high end but also not low end.

So far my list looks as follows,

MSI A88XI AC V2 AMD A88X (Socket FM2+) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard

AMD A6-6400K 3.90GHz (Socket FM2) APU Richland Dual Core / AMD A6-7400K ( Ebuyer, free delivery and only £10 more )

HyperX Beast 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel

Be Quiet SFX Power 2 300W '80 Plus Bronze' SFX Power Supply

Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD

All wrapped up in a Raijintek Metis - Windowed - Black Mini ITX Case

As far as cooling goes it is probably going to be something low profile.

I think the CPU, and motherboard are compatible, I have never dealt with AMD before, and have literally only started parts sourcing in the last half and hour, this is just a starting point. As far as ram, am I right in thinking for APU's go for the fastest, the motherboard will support?

Thanks guys...

To be fair, if it's just for browsing and movies you could pretty much be done for under 200 quid with something like this?

The CPU and motherboard are indeed compatible but why not go with the A6 7400K that is a bit newer more powerful more efficient. The difference should be ca. 10Euros.
Other than that this is going to be a really nice media station/ light gaming rig ^_^

With APUs it's all about memory speed. Get the fastest memory you can as the APU will respond well to it.

Whether I would spend that much on what you have described though? I doubt it. As Feronix has said there are way, way cheaper options for media PCs these days.

APU = poor man's CPU + GPU. Slightly overkill for what you have in mind.

Well the price of that APU is the same price of the Pentium K G3258 it's not a bad choice, is it??

However going with an 5350 AM1 Athon would drop the cost by A LOT and would kinda get the job done

Cheers mate, I was looking at the AM1 cpu's to begin with, but I decided on the FM2, with the FM2+ option on the motherboard as in the future I will probably be changing to the green time in my main rig, so I could throw in a GPU in the future, if I decided to for steaming, plus the FM2/+ is a little newer.

As far as the A6 7400k, they haven't got them in stock at Overclockers,( sorry should have mentioned that, I'll amend the op ) and would prefer to use one supplier if possible, and I will never use Scan again, they have never got one order right over the last 5 years.

The input is still helpful though guys, it's giving me more to think about, I just hope the misses doesn't see the thread, over my shoulder cos if she saw the 3150 option, my mind would be made up for me...lol.

Has anyone had any experience with the SOC motherboards, the Asus N3150I-C SoC, or the ASRock N3150T, I've just come across these and I'm going to do some Googlefu, to check them out.
