Mayhems Faux Pas

A couple of weeks ago i was notified of a Facebook post by Mayhems which was obviously a knee jerk response to a forum post i made quite some time ago in which i mentioned i made my own Aurora liquid for a few show cases at i45 and showed a few pictures.

Mayhems original FaceBook post

Obviously a few people were sceptical (and rightly so) that i did in fact make my own Aurora fluid so i thought it only right that i make a quick Youtube video actually showing me making it, without showing any of Mayhems "trade secrets".

MyYoutube reply which still makes me laugh

Low and behold, a couple of nights later, the original Facebook post was taken down and Mayhems made a public apology.........fine and dandy i thought.......no real harm done to either party and i was prepared to let it go.........WRONG!

Mayhems apology

Unfortunately this whole fuck up goes a little deeper and the malice aforethought shown by Mayhems in his moment of madness is a little more widespread than i was first lead to believe.

I was prepared to let Mayhems original little outburst go, given that an apology was made on the medium (Facebook) on which said outburst occurred once he had spoken to various people (not least the Youtube video i posted) and had it verified that i did actually replicate his liquid but the plot thickens.

On arriving at i46 on the Friday of last week i was approached by Coolermaster, who incidentally i’ve worked with worldwide on various projects for some 12+ years without any issue, and who were intending to show one of my case mods on their booth but on arrival CoolerMaster took me to one side and informed me of an email they had received which basically informed them that they were working with a liar and a cheat (me) and vehemently recommend that they cut all ties/sponsorship from me etc. etc. etc. – i was shown and have a copy of the email but choose not to make it public.

I was informed that this email went internally viral so is now worldwide throughout CoolerMaster thanks to Mayhem and had it not been for my past and present work with them, i could now be out of a job which effects me personally and financially.......and i don’t like that one bit.

Mayhems did make an appearance to i46 along with his partner Steve Verity (formerly of Thermochill) on the Saturday and i made it known in so many words that this was totally out of order and he needed to rectify the situation best he could.

I arrived home after i46 to a CC’d email which Mayhem sent to CoolerMaster in a bid to rectify my credibility but a week on i’m still getting emails from friends and colleagues at CoolerMaster informing me of his initial round robin email and the potential damage it could and still possible has to my future relationship with them.

Thanks Mayhem, i’ll finish with his email apology to CoolerMaster and NO i will not remove the YT video :crack:

Email as promised below that ive have sent to Coolermaster. Please can you remove that YT video that we talked about.

To who it may concern

I sent an email last week in which I told you about a problem we thought we had with one of your sponsored users Paul Edwards aka “coolmiester” and owner of http://www.coolercases.co.uk also part time worker for XSPC.

This turns out to be an extremely large mistake set in play from other people trying to cause rifts which I personally should have not fallen for. After personally speaking to Paul Edwards (down at the i46) and other people whom new about the subject we have found that that we have made a massive mistake in me accusing Paul Edwards of handing out company trade secrets of ours as they were unfounded and untrue.

Its turns out the information we was given and the time frame it was given in is totally incorrect and was knocked out of all proportion and the events that followed up by myself should have never taken place. This is no fault of Paul Edwards what so ever.

I would like to unreservedly apologue to your staff members and to Paul Edwards about this matter and with draw my comments if possible. Please do not take any comments I have made in the previous email as true or fact as they are incorrect. It was my responsibility to find out if this information indeed was true however I took the comments personally without first checking the information. Due to me spending the last 4 years working on Mayhems and Mayhems product lines I have an enormous amount of passion for my company and took the information I received personally and to hart. I should have never have done this and a massive lesson has been learnt from this mistake. This is alone my fault and not Mayhems the company or any of its representatives or staff members.

Please pass this email onto those who need it.

Your sincerely

Michael L Wood

I'm now on a damage limitation exercise, all thanks to this idiot who thinks its acceptable to go ahead and email somebody's employer with a whole pack of lies in the hope of them losing their job which i find totally unacceptable and will do my upmost to correct the situation.

Thanks for reading and my apologies if this has effected anyone either directly or indirectly.

Paul

I would have hoped a spokesperson for a company would have been able to use a spelling and grammar checker.

Really sorry to hear about that. I guess it was a pretty simple mistake the guy made, really; sees a product that looks identical to Mayhems, someone tells him it IS Mayhems but you claim to have made it yourself and he goes off on one. Absolutely he should have checked the facts, but he knows that's where he went wrong, he's apologized for it. I'm sure he'll do whatever you ask, within reason, to put it right. It's just a shame it's happened but he really does seem pretty embarrassed and sorry about the whole thing. Hope it all gets straightened out with you ASAP, anyway; good luck.

All I can say is that I hope this is all rectified as soon as possible.
Mayhem's initial response, although a little gung-ho, is almost expected, but that letter to Coolermaster? That's a little OTT. Still, it's good that he has apologised, both publicly on Facebook but also a followup email to Coolermaster. Let's just hope Coolermaster see the error in his ways and realise you've done nothing wrong whatsoever.

Unacceptable.

Mailing an employer like that with the intention of losing someone their job without proper facts is,in my neighbourhood,a drive by offense.

Disgusting behavior.

Fist off I will start with a disclaimer that I am not affiliated with any group or business that has any vested interest in either Mayhems or it competitors, nor do I have association or accounts on forums that have grudges with Mayhems, however after following this saga and doing my own research I felt it necessary to share my own views on this subject.

To attack someone on a public forum or media in a way is not acceptable regardless of representing a business or not, however to take it a step further an take action as a representative of a company to directly target someones livelihood is a criminal act (at least in my country), and at least warrant civil suit if not criminal charges.

This whole incident made me a little curious about the product and with very little effort it wasn't hard to work out the secret ingredient, something that Mayhems should be aware of is if someone comes up with an idea it doesn't take long for others to replicate.

This whole thing serves as a warning to the community and while the way Michael handled this is deplorable, I also ask why someone like Coolermiester who has been sponsored by Mayhems and used their products felt it necessary to replicate their product and post about it, I think it a little naive to not realize this would spark a responses if not from Mayhems then others in the community.

I really hope this whole matter can be resolved between the parties involved and I commend how Coolermiester has acted since the exchange started, he has every right to defend himself, and has withheld sharing the secret ingredient, I hope however he has learn a lesson that if you have been associated with a company that you need to be careful in future how your actions and comments can be perceived.

Regards

Brian

This is just disgusting behaviour!
I'm sure this'll get sorted out properly, but still this really is unacceptable.

Mick, you need to replace the damages done to my loop as part of your testing team.
You said this is part of your testing policy, yet you have vanished of the face of the earth and blocked me from your FB page.

Not acceptable.
