Manhunt 2 banned in the UK - ?and Ireland?

They were talking about it on Dallas radio last week, imo it`s a waste of tax payers money. U leave a kid strapped in the car, u`r gonna leave em in the bath.

i think they should start banning bad games nevermind violence.

it really does my shed in how nearly every over the top violent game is a really really poor game underneath, manhunt included.

thrill kill is probably one of the worst fighting games of all time yet always gets a mention becuase of the violence in it, and i'm sure it boosted sales.

i think when making a game at some point they stand back and realise it just isn't going well and this games sucks, its so gonna bomb. Then someone comes up with the idea of adding loads of red stuff and some stupid ways of killing people and we have a winner.

GTA i wouldn't put in this becuase the violence wasn't the core of the game, yes it was there but it wasn't the be all and end all. The only violent game i can think of that didn't blow after 10 minutes was mortal kombat, and i think that was only becuase i was in awe of it at them tender teenage years.

Without seeing the content, it's difficult to say whether it should be banned or not. I hear that the Wii version had a lot to do with it.

Apparently, after using the Wiimote to swing a chainsaw into someones head, you then push it backwards and forwards to saw into said head

I don't know about you but I don't need that level of realism.

On the other hand, we were talking about this today at work and compared it to recent movie releases, which have been cleared.

Whoever's seen Hostel and not looked away and/or squirmed at various bits, is deffo not right in the head. And I'm sure it's not me just me getting old.

I saw "Driller Killer", "I Spit on Your Grave" etc. long before they were originally banned (on betamax), and they were like Andy Pandy compared to Hostel/Hostel2.

We decided it was a combination of realistic special effects and believable, fictional circumstances that made certain films more disturbing.

As an example, something like Alien or The Grudge scared the pants of us, but at no time did we think, bloody hell that could happen next door to me!

You always have it in the back of your mind that it's only a film.

Where as, today's current trend towards "torture porn", as it's been dubbed, pushes things a bit far and definitely desensitizes us to extreme violence.

I found the drill and tendon torture scene in Hostel unwatchable and in a way, I'm glad.

I also agree with the other game being withdrawn as it was, at the very least, insensitive to include the James Bulger still in the game.

What I find interesting, and I include myself in this, is why we are so offended by this? There is no violence shown, nothing to shock, other than the memory of what came next.

Since Manhunt and Manhunt 2 allow you to slaughter innocent people in ways probably already used in real life, why does this not hit a nerve? It's probably press coverage.

Afterall, we were all moved by the coverage of the girl that was kidnapped in Portugal, but didn't give a second thought to the spanish toddler that went missing earlier this year.

Wow, having kids really messes with your morals...:o

Yeah, I've got the PS2 version of Manhunt and you're right, just crims.

But I thought I'd read in Edge or somewhere that No2 would be emergent gameplay and you could choose your path (help the guards or kill the guards).

It was prob about a year ago so could of all changed since then.

All in all, I don't think it should be banned just because of some blood.

Look at Saw3. I ahve heard stories of people being sick in the cinema and people fainting.

I saw saw1 (lolz) and hated it.. :p

well it goes even further a simple ban in the uk... now Nintendo and Sony have simply ditched the game basically telling that their company does not allow any AO-rated materials on their console. Thus Manhunt2 will simply never come out on the Wii or the PS3 unless the game get censored and loses its AO rating.

moreover Gamefly and Blockbuster will not be carrying Manhunt2 either for the same reason mentioned above for SOny and Nintendo... no AO-rated materials!!!

Yeah `people`, I`m sure their bannage is hugely aimed at kid involvement. Whereas the kids shouldn`t come anywhere near a game or film of this nature under appropriate parentage.

They are being a little petty, I think.

It will now probably sell loads of copys because of this "banning"... meaning sony and nintendo lose out. :)

.. and also be one of the most sort-after illegal copies to be downloaded as a result, especially if the format versions are out in other countries ..

I Think most people would agree The Times newspaper is Not one of your "Tabloid" Gutter press trash jounalism papers.

David Cooke, the director of the BBFC, said that the board preferred to ask for cuts rather than order an outright ban, but that was impossible in this case.
