Hello everyone! First I'll start off by saying I'm new to Overclock3D and just by reading through a few posts I can see this is a pretty nice community sign-up to. I'm not an expert with hardware but I figure out what works and what won't. I'm a student studying for Video Game Design and going back to school for Advanced Web Development so please keep that in mind while reading through my build. I also do a lot of heavy gaming and looking to start streaming demanding games and introducing myself to the world of 3D gaming. Now on to the build!

Here's a list of a few things I am doing and wanting to do.
- Play demanding games such as Battlefield 3 (I already play but looking to upgrade for some Ultra setting action) and hopefully soon GTA5.
- Work a lot in Photoshop and 3D programs like Maya and Max rendering.
- Starting to get involved with Live Streaming demanding games.
- Going to start messing around with 3D gaming since it's something I have yet to do.

- *MONITOR: BenQ XL2420TX 24" 3D http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014288 (I will be adding 2 more 24" monitors as well. Most likely not 3D though.
- CASE: NZXT Switch 810 Full Tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146088
- MOTHERBOARD: I need help choosing a nice motherboard to go along with my setup because I have yet to find one. I'm looking for one that isn't too complicated and doesn't have a bunch of features that I probably won't use. I don't tinker with the hardware much unless it's the GPU.
- *CPU: i7-3930K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116492
- *GPU: Nvidia GTX 680 (I currently have 1 but I'm looking to 3-Way SLi soon) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130799
- RAM: Mushkin 8GB DDR3 2133 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226245
- POWER SUPPLY: I'm not 100% on the power supply as well so hopefully someone can recommend me one. So far I have the Rosewill Lightning 1300W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182063 in my wishlist.

- CPU COOLER: Corsair H100i http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181032

Well, those are the specs of the PC so far. If anyone could help me out with a Motherboard and Power Supply it would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to leave any other comments you would like. Hope to hear back from someone soon! I apologize if it's a bit messing with the links but I figured people would prefer to see the actual products. Thanks in advance.

I tried this over at Tom's Hardware but never got any answers... I came to Overclock3D because it seems like the right place to go and because it looks cooler.

The best mobo for the 2011 is the rampage 4 extreme yes it has stuff you may not use but if you can get the best then do so, as to the power supply go with a Corsair you wont be disappointed

welcome to OC3D forums.

looks like a big list. most of links are broken (didnt highlight all of the link - left out
part number) on all but the H100i

unless you are cranking some 500MB photo files or rendering some monster
vid with premiere, im using a sandy bridge 2700K/ASUS MIVE-Z for easy layers
control and rendering. couldnt see the $650 difference on CPU cost. and for gaming
almost zero need for 6-core CPU.

i7-3770k
ASUS Z77-V Pro or MSI Z77a-GD65/MPower
look for some HD VRAM GPU cards for that 3D 'sperience on 3D and multi monitor
usage. if not using premeire for rendering, the 7970 cards are priced better and
have a memory bit-rate quicker than the nVidia cards. premiere and CUDA are
the cats meow.. open/GL and premiere is a bit of an annoyance. works, but painfully
errored and slooowwww..
again, welcome to OC3D

@Excalabur50
Thanks for the answer. I'll definitely be taking a look at that one then. Would you be able to point me in the direction for a nice Corsair power supply?

@airdeano
Thanks for the welcome.

I went ahead and fixed the links. They didn't seem to be pasted correctly the first time. The reason why I went for the 3930k was because of the 3D rendering in Maya and because it seems to have little to no impact on performance when live streaming demanding games with maxed out settings. I already purchased my i7-3930k and it came in a few days ago. So far I have my CPU, Monitor, and GPU.

Any 2011 board that you would recommend or would your vote be the R4E as well?

@OC3D
Is there a tool I could use to help me figure out which power supply to get? I originally choose this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182063 but I'm not sure if 1300W is too much for the specs I listed above. I always struggle with the motherboard and knowing the amount of watts I should be looking for. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I've been extremely busy and have had no time to respond. I will definitely be looking into the R4E then and see what I can do. The R4E is a bit out of my price range for a motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131802

Any other thoughts about the GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD3? I'd rather get this one if it will work just fine.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128532&Tpk=GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD3

Why is the Ax1200i PSU more expensive then the Rosewill 1300W and what is the difference?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139039&Tpk=ax1200i

Would I be okay with the Rosewill? Just looking to save some money wherever possible. The spending limit has rose to 1k but I'm wanting to save some of them for more monitors and some new Razer gear.

AX1200i
Platinum
fully-modular
Digital

Rosewill 1300W
Gold
semi-modular
analog

Even though the Rosewill is rated at a higher wattage the AX1200i can probably provide more power. You don't have one of these big cable strings laying around and you can monitor the power output etc.

Hey guys, sorry for the major inactivity. I've been so busy with school and just everyday life. While dealing with all of that, I did manage to order in the rest of my parts and build my new PC. Everything worked flawlessly on the first boot and haven't ran into any issues yet.

The MB & PSU I got are displayed in the Newegg Wishlist below. I decided to go with the Gigabyte X79-UD3 that kilobravo recommended. I have to say, It's working pretty darn well and basic enough for me. The PSU I ended up getting was a 1200W Cooler Master and fit into the price range I had left. I will upload screenshots later of the new pc.

I'm not good with cable management at all, but I tried. I know it could be a lot better but ow well, it works. If anybody can recommend some nice lights to fill up the interior then please let me know! I'm gathering up money to try and get another 4GB 680 GTX as well.

Are you actually serious about 680 3 way sli? That would be a massive waste IMO, Battlefield gets maxed out by a 660, and GTA V probably isn't coming to PC

If you aren't going to watercool with a custom loop then don't get the 810, a h100 will look stupid, have a look at something like a Corsiar 500r

It'll come out on PC. Maybe far later than the console versions but there's a multi million dollar payday in it for R* so we'll see it sooner or later.

not necessarily, red dead redemption never got on pc.
and if it will, it won't be nothing a mid range gpu couldn't handle. well, without ICEnhancer.

I already have all of my hardware and I won't be changing it for anything else. I don't only play video games. I also deal with 3D models and rendering. I'll easily be able to play the games at ultra and be able to stream live just fine with this setup. I don't see it as a waste of money and I love what I have.

Personally, I believe that GTAV will be coming out for the PC sooner or later. I don't doubt it at all. And if not, then oh well. Adding GTAV to the post was just something extra. It wasn't going to make me change my mind at all. I had the money and put it towards a pc that I am loving right now. Is that a problem?

unnecessary grumpiness. you got feedback on your post, that's how this works.
do whatever you want mate.

Nah, I wasn't being grumpy at all. I was just wondering why it seemed like a problem to have this and I had already stated that I ordered it all. It's all good though. I do appreciate all the feedback I've gotten and a big thanks to everyone.

Tiny compared to the GTA franchise dude.
i guess we have a good chance since the new consoles are x86 systems and gtaV will release for them, i think? i hope it will release on PC, it should be the same engine so that game with ICEnhancer could look stunning.

Pre-orders are on Xbox 360 and PS3. Which is odd I guess, wasn't the PS4 supposed to be released at around the same time as GTA V (September)?
