Mafia PC performance

I just reinstalled this game to play it through again since it's fuckin awesome. When I first played it I had some kind of onboard audio, fx 5200, and 2800+. It ran perfectly on medium+ settings. With my x800, AC97 audio, windows sp2, and winchester, it runs like fucking shit. I have to lower audio acceleration to basic to get the audio to even work right. After that, I average about 35-40 fps in game. I'm pretty pissed about this and I can't find a tweak guide or anything to fix this. I've fucked around with all the settings, nothing seems to help.

The City of Lost Heaven, right? That game frickin rocks! I haven't installed it on my desktop or laptop yet...last time I played it was on a 1900+ XP and a Radeon 9200SE. I'll install on my machine and tell ye what I get :)

Yeah, it's one of my favorite games. I was hoping to see a Mafia 2 or multiplayer mod come out, but I think they've trashed both ideas.

yea mafia needs LOTS of free, quick RAM to run :( and gunnin ur acceleration @ basic really eats up the cpucycles (and RAM) so em get a SBlive! @ least or llk for a patch or use the Codec maufacturers latest drivers from their site (ie if u use a realtek codec in a abit board go to reattek as usually mobo makers dont update such drivers regularly)

Yeah it was using 250MB+ of ram. I'll try and find an update for my sound. Another thing is that I disabled sound and fps will go below 60 and 50 when the game should be running at a solid 60 fps.

Yeah I think my fuckin motherboard has some issues, probably sound related. I was really looking forward to playing this too. I'll just have to keep hunting for a fix for this bullshit.

Whats up with your profile? It says AMD and you have a Pentium, it says ATI and you have a 64mb MX4000...you mentioned Mafia was using 250MB of RAM, and in your profile it says you have 128MB PC133.

Time for an update, methinks?

I'm too lazy to update it. I said I got this stuff in first post: "x800, AC97 audio, windows sp2, and winchester"
