Thanks for the tip Axer, I checked the delivery head on my pump (Hydor L20), i'ts 135 cm. It's 66 cm from the base to the VGA, so it should reach, if it's not powerful enough I'll buy a new pump, maybe an Eheim. I'm trying to keep the cost of this whole project down and the Hydor pump is one that I have lying around. The whole frame is made from scrap metal I pulled out of a skip :p One man's rubbish is another man's treasure!

Ok, thats cool then, looks very nice btw, the legs also look cool, nice and stable too id asume judging by the angle they are set at

Yeah, thats right Axer, I put the legs on to make it more stable, although I have to admit, the extra height is nice :D

Got all the bits now, getting closer to finishing this project, just waiting for the silicon sealent to dry in the reservoir.

Any ideas anyone on how to get a good brushed aluminium effect and also what to coat or treat it with to protect it?

wire wool brushed over in one direction will give you a decent effect mate. It dont need coated, the aluminium oxidises & creates its own protective coating.

That's what I've been doing at the moment but when you touch it, it sometimes leaves marks behind. You can see some of the marks underneath the bottom window.

Phil, I'll probably start a new thread on how I made this thing, I took lots of pics. Here's one of the internals.

ferkin hell Zax, its like the British version of a Saturn moon rocket, m8. Its brilliant, the last photo is obviously where the solid rocket boosters detach and fall back to earth. :D btw Phil we DON'T want to see piccies of YOUR internals  (but that Packard Bell, thats another thing!)
