Hey guys, Im trying to burn off a Mac osx on my windows 7 computer so i can reformat my mac.

Anyone got any ideas? Tried macdrive , no luck, used magiciso, still no luck. Wondered if i was going wrong anywhere.

Cheers guys

The original disc size is for a dual layer DVD disk (around 12GB iirc), never done it on Windows so my help is useless... I always use PowerISO for burning iso (of legal images, which is what I'm guessing you have?

).

Got the leopard 1.6gb size one, stripped. IM trying to use macdrive to read the files after ive converted them using magiciso and dmg2iso and then mounted them using either daemons or poweriso. All fully legit of course

You want to backup the whole drive? can you use time machine to backup the data/apps? then restore them after re-install?

A lot of people use Carbon Copy Cloner because it allows you to create a bootable restore disk etc.

or I think you can just restore a DMG image using the osx disk in disk utility (think it's tools > disk utility or something)

if u have a dmg u could burn it onto a dvd in windows using UDF then mac osx should be able to read it and mount/restore the dmg to the drive.

I had to burn a OSX restore disk for someone who lost theirs and just used nero to burn the iso but was a lot larger than 1.5gb

What i mean is, and thanks for the help, but i have no access to this mac at all, im getting some panic report come up on it the second it turns on and tries to boot. Soooo...

I need to make a bootable disc so i can format it and start it from a fresh install. I have no way of using any macs apps or the disc utilities or anything, so im going to reformat it from the word go, but i cannot find a way of making a bootable mac disc in a windows os....Make any sense?

so u just need a restore/install iso and a dual layer dvd or borrow one from someone.

should be as easy as just writing the iso to a disk if it's a valid iso

soz, all the talk about converting the image to dmg etc threw me off

The only trouble being that the iso is a dmg image, ive burnt the dmg image to disc but it simply wont work, its driving me insane!! If i figure this out, ill be a happy man!!

if it's a dmg and it's a stripped image it could a image of a mac install?? (image of a harddrive)

would explain how it's only 1.5GB and you would need a bootable disk to restore the image

(might be possible with something like carbon copy cloner boot disk)

I think you can send off for a disk from apple but it costs money if you don't have the applecare thing

Can you get into safemode?

Like I was saying. The .iso/.dmg should be > 8GB ATLEAST! The 1.5GB is surely not the correct installation. Perhaps you have downloaded the Snow Leopard UPDATE disk? You will need the original first. If you have downloaded legally then check for the correct version. If you have downloaded via torrent or newsgroups then good luck finding one that actually works, although you're bound to run into trouble with 'knock off' copies. I had a friend copy his disk for me (I paid like £12 for the discs, he messed like 4 of them) and finally got it to copy... I received and it didn't boot, the disk appeared to be empty.

Isn't Snow Leopard like £30 retail anyway? Sound invesment then you can reformat all the times you want

. But when I dipped my toes into the world of Macs most filesizes are around 6-7gb in which you will need a dual layer burner / disc.

Cheers for the help guys!!! Dont forget, we cant mention torrenting and downloading on here, we must all be well behaved.
