M.2 ssd

Hi Guys
Just a quick Question I have just got a Asus Z97 board and was just wondering if it is worth getting an M.2 ssd for booting up the OS. And would it be better than a sata 3 ssd?. Thanks.

M.2 is, in my opinion, the future but it isn't quite here yet. Before I'd pick up one I'd wait until more SSDs are on the market. NVMe is young and there is a poor choice of available SSDs which rarely take advantage of the additional speed. They also tend to be expensive. Personally I'd wait a few months.

Ok thank You for the reply
was just asking as a friend has a spare 240gb and said i could have it for £100 but it its not worth it ill pass it up thanks again.

If it your friend who got it spare, get it off him, test it out, see if you like what it offers you in your situation, compare it against SSD speeds in your uses.

Only then can you answer whether it is worth it to you, but take into account above advice also.

£100 seems quite a lot for a second hand 240GB SSD? You can get new ones for that!

Anyway - if you really want/need the SSD now then get stuck in with a decent SATA 3 one and be happy with it for a while until you can be bothered/afford a new one.

If you can wait a few months though then I would hold on until the NVMe drives hit the shelves proper.

Honestly though you probably won't notice the difference in speed between the two depending on what you will be doing with the PC but that alone doesn't justify getting the slower one. This is always the case with tech - there is always something better about to come out!
