well project just hit a snaffu seems even though I got ref design blocks and cards now these blocks dont fit my cards.

alphacool 7970/50 blocks. Originally purchased for my 7950's that were also on their compatibility list. But the gpu makers changed the pcb layout from what I gather at least 3 times now. Cause these blocks were rev 2 I had thought them to fit my ref cards but as rev 2 it was a gamble. But now at least I know what blocks will fit 100% and can get them ordered. But I also got a super sweet deal on these ref design HIS 7970's so it was a no brainer. but pcb shows the AMD logo and 109 c38637-00

Rev 2 from alphacool is to the new Series of cards ;) So you need the first series from alphacool now right ? :)

its for a series of cards I'm uncertain which series lol My XFX 7950's were on Alpha cools supported list but now they say its not. LOL I took a gamble with these new cards knowing they probably wouldn't fit but hoped they would lol. Now I have original reference design cards so I can get the proper blocks now. Just double checking with Alpha cool one more time before dropping the $$$ on them. I sent them a pic of the pcb rev and layout so there will be no doubt this time.

WOW, good luck!

on the plus side my new rads and dual D5 pump and Bay Rez arrived today as well as new CPU block. this upgrade is going to be totally Alphacool for near 100% copper goodness.

Very nice! I'm sure you will have lots of fun with these.

My MSI 7950 overclocks very well, but it has plenty of coil whine when the voltage is turned up for the higher clocks. It's pretty quiet at around stock settings though.

just arrived today via FedEx 2 HIS Reference design 7970's voltage unlocked and bios switched boy am I gonna have some fun over the next few weeks.

Finally a 79XX card that will fit my Alphacool water blocks

I am looking at maybe purchasing a couple of these myself here
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-048-HS&tool=3

But just wanted to clear a few things up: -

1. Did yours come with the blue pcb?
2. What waterblock did you use in the end?
3. If they are blue pcb's I will most likely fit a back plate, do the EK ones fit does anyone know?

no the pcb is black. I used Alphacool NexXxoS ATXP ATI 7970/50 Series The backplates were out of stock when I ordered by blocks so I'll get them later. Most likely when its time to flush the system.

I still need to update my pics lol.

those look like the ones I got but here lies the issue they changed the pcb several times. Without having the cards on hand you cant know for sure. Ref designed cards will have the AMD logo on the pcb and a pcb number by the pci-e slot I went thru 2 different blocks and 2 different cards before I got it right.

Aren't the Reference card from AMD too loud for you? I think Reference AMD cards look outstanding but I couldn't stand the fact that they are so loud... Are you planing to get an after market cooler?

yes they tend to be loud. ergo the reason for finding proper blocks for them. Artic Cooling also makes an outstanding air cooler for them which has gained good reviews for performance buy tend to be a tad troublesome to install. But reviews I have read rate them at cooler while being quiet even at 100% fan speed to be as quiet as the stock coolers at 30%
