Looking to purchase new mouse; help needed!

Hey guys, recently my old £15 mouse has started to get a worn with the left click getting stuck occasionally or not registering, so... I'm using it as an excuse to get a new one. I play Warcraft 3:TFT (an RTS game) on a 21 inch tft monitor, and am open to suggestions on what mice you may recomend to me. I also play the occasional FPs though not so much.

I've investigated mice over the last couple of days and have narrowed it down to the Logitech G10, Death Adder Razor, Razor Lachiases. I've probably missed many other good alternatives, and havn't really got my heart set on anything at the moment so other suggestions are welcome as well.

G10 looks kinda ugly to me, which has put me off a bit, having said that I guess it shouldn't really matter. Its got some good reviews, similiar to the Lachias... 7 buttons, right now I'd pick the lachias over it though, just because it looks more comfey even though the customisation does appeal to me...

Death adder Razor seems like a safe bet right now, £20 less than the other two rivals of the present and ergomacly made for right handed people. 5 buttons isn't bad either... like I don't know how good the middle one will be but 4 should be just about enough to use useful inventory slots. My only concern with this is how compatable it will be with Vista; will i still be able to get the most out of it? Like the driver.

Lastly, the Lachias looks pretty awsome. From what I've read the huge dpi is somewhat irrelevant. Despite this it looks pretty nice to use as well as having space fo my big palms to rest on. 7 buttons is pretty nice, although some have warned that all of them are hard to use due to it being ampidextrous (blast those left-handed villains!)... so maybe they wouldn't even be preferable to the Death Adders. I can get it for £45 here, would you buy it off ebay?

Anyway, I'd really appreciate some help on this... spending £50 on a mouse seems steep, I'm prepared to do it though. This is my first post, so I'm sorry if I placed it in the wrong part of the forum.

a good gaming mouse makes all the difference,

i tryed out all 3 mouses, and all of them are great to my opinion.

mouses of over 2000dpi are great, but its ofcourse nice to have some higher options, i think u have to focus on the way the mouse is made, does it feel good in your hand, becouse i can get the highest dpi u want, extra adjustable weights, but it wont be that nice if it does not feel good in your hand.

its deffenetly worth it.

hmmm, I have quite big palms and fat fingers; unfortunatly I can't feel them before I buy them ;D. How did the Lachias compare to the Death Adder, worth the extra £20 in your opinion? Did you enjoy the design of the lachias and did you try all the buttons to see if they were easily usable?

thanks.

I use a Razer Diamondback (&Qpad XXXL) :) got it for £20 about 3or4 years ago.

I mainly play FPS games and it makes a huge difference. I play Warcraft3 and also Warhammer40k DoW and find it is good on both, but I don't think it really makes that much difference on RTS style games.

Mice I had previous were: Logitech MX-500, Microsoft Intelli Explorer v3, Razer Boomslang 10000 & various other cheapy ones :)

i use the MX518 my self, its cheap, and offers great preformance, if u want a low budget mouse, then this 1 is also great;)

Hehe, from what you guys have said it doesn't seem like I've done bad on selecting mice over the years. I've had a similiar version of the Logitech MX-500 for a couple of years; its still attached to my old PC even. When I bought a new PC i got Microsoft Wired Laser Mouse 6000 which is similiar to the other suggestion of the intelli optical mouse as far as i can tell.

I switched from the Logitech when the left/right clicks got worn down beyond use to the Microsoft when I got my new PC; 6 months down the road this is getting dodgey as well. A mouse can only last a certain amount of clicks, seems to me I might as well enjoy them on one top mouse as opposed to many cheap and cheerful ones.

Maybe i'm wrong though and both the new intelli and Logi trump its predecessor to a large degree, in which case I'm all ears =) (erm... eyes).

Also, as said earlier will the stuff that comes on CD of anolder mouse like Death Adder work on Vista to potential?

I think one of the best mice for under £20 (if not, the best) is the intelli explorer v3

£17.99 at play.com

Mice are all down to user preference tho as different people obviously have different sized hands etc. I find the diamondback's shape is quite nice, especially for flick shots on FPS games. But I see a lot of 'gaming' mice on ebay where people say they just don't get on with them.

I've seen a lot of people on CS:S saying they have just got a intelli v3 (yer it's been re-released) :)

I've noticed a lot of people only use their expensive mice on 1600/1800dpi aswell :)

If you can, try some out and figure out what sort of shape & size mouse you're looking for.

edit: There's also the razer deathadder :) which is a similar shape to the intelli explorer.

OC3D Review Of the Razer Deathadder

Hmm, to help make a decision I took pictures of my hands (yes... its amazing what you will do when dodging revision). As you can see with the Microsoft Laser mouse I'm replacing it offers little to no support for the palm of my hand. On top of that as seen in the 3rd picture it appears I hold the mouse at and angle to fit a natural right hand curl almost. The 1st picture shows my weekly wages, my well defined love line and generally beefy hand ( I think). The 4th picture displays how squashed the mouse appears to be; bear in mind I has to take all these with my left hand only so they're not great.

This means, that although I am still sitting on the fence at present, that my legs would probably be on the side of the Lachias (plenty of room for palm) and death adder (made for right-handed people).

The last picture was just to show off my layout; nice huh?

Thanks for suggestions and link to article btw =), keep them coming!1 To help narrow down the possibilites i think the two things I am interested in most are amount/accesibility of buttons and gernal support; although more obvious factors such as dpi and movement are also important.

Any help is much appreciated.

Edit - I'll be buying soon, hopefully tomorrow so if I'm wasteing my money or you have better alternatives please share them =). Imagine this to help you; you are a stout, racing after a mouse. How much energy you spend catching it, how long it sustains you, preference in weight are all important factors in your choice. Anyway, halp meh! :D

I have a G9 here atm and I find it very comfortable ( insanely fast and customisable too). Have you considered the SteelSeries Ikari? I'll have one in for review this week hopefully if you can hold off on the purchase.

OCZ Equalizer

Got mine for £21 inc shipping from Amazon. goes up to 2500dpi, has a orange button that clicks 3 times (well shoots) and it's very nice and smooth.

Just looked up the steelseries, looks awsome; other reviews rate it highly too. There's good chance I won't have any such mouse for a while as I currently am poor, its definatly up there now though. The razor I always found a bit to exhibisionist...

Also checked out the OCZ, it seems similiar to the one I have now which is somthing I'm trying to move away from. Despite that if I end up not being able to afford the newer ones its great to know that theres already plenty of good mice for around £20.

*plugs the steelseries mouse*

Razer mice have a good name...but I don't rate them. Buy a Steelseries Ikari....you'll never look back.

Failing that, get an mx518.

Seriously, does anyone use 25000000 DPI?

If you only play RTS games, I don't see the significance a expensive mouse will make.

In theory you shouldn't need to spend more than £20 for a good desktop mouse.

I don't think razer mice are 'sucky' at all either. I've had my diamondback for years and have had no problems with it.

But I had to mod my MX-500 by removing the weight block and also had to replace the teflon feet a total of 5times in 8months  I'm still on the original ones on my diamondback.

Also the intelli v3 is excellent, the one I had lasted me ages and is still one of my favourite mice.

I <3 Logitech mouse, got a MX518 at home and a Wireless one at work. I would look at the G5 2007 edition or G9 (not to sure about the shape yet).

Saw this thread so thought I might as well seek a bit of opinion, I need a new mouse cos I am still using a wireless cheapo labtec one from when I was laid up with a broken leg and needed to work the PC from bed. I don't want to spend more than £40 and at the moment I'm looking at the G5 or the Razer Deathadder. I can get them for £33 and £35 respectively. I like the look of the Razer and I think that a big mouse would be ideal for me as I have quite big hands, but the G5 has adjustable weights in its favour. I would use on-the-fly sensitivity for games and CAD, this feature is not default on the Deathadder but can be assigned through the control panel to the extra buttons. What advantages does the Deathadder's Infrared sensor have over the G5's laser if any?

I am going to back the Razer/MS Habu, I upgraded from my MX1000 to this, and I love it, good mouse and I have not had a single problem with it, its certainly not "sucky" infact the best mouse I have had.
