Looking for other Aussie Enthusiasts!

Hi guys,

Thought I'd start this thread to find some other Aussie Enthusiasts. The intention of the thread is so that if need be you can discuss things with other locals. Stuff like recommendations on suppliers, if you notice a local supplier has a cracking deal on a component or maybe tee up a game of some sort against another local enthusiast.

Alot of the other guys talk € or £ or $US but in this thread we'll be able to talk in $AUS and not have to try and convert the foreign currencies to $AUS so we actually understand the price.

Obviously i still encourage you to be active on the rest of the forum, but with somethings its better to talk to someone from your area. Hopefully this thread gets off the ground!

Oh btw.
I'm from Sydney, just near Parramatta.

Cheers,
Xr.

Ok so here is a list of Aussie suppliers with reasonable reputation PcCaseGear, Scorptec, Umart, Mwave, others but don't know if they can be fully trusted MSY, CPL, Altech now Altech can be a bit funny as they have been busted for doing dodgy stuff but they can be good also.
Others but dont know much about Techbuy, Megabuy.
Feel free to add others that you know of.

I've been a customer of Msy for 14 years and my Dad has been a customer even longer still. The thing with them is you need to go in expecting horrible customer service but as a trade of 9/10 you'll get the best price on the gear they have for sale. They aren't as comprehensive stock wise as they used to be but they still have a good range. Here is their website http://www.msy.com.au/home.php

I'd also recommend a Sydney chain of stores called ARC Computers. Good service. Prices to compete with MSY. Quite a comprehensive stock list as well as the options to order in stock they don't keep on hand. And they do stock a small amount of watercooling gear! Here is their website http://www.arc.com.au/pub.php it's abit of a crappy website quite old school in terms of computer store sites. Really needs an update but does the job.

I thought I should also add the this a couple more local WC suppliers

Brisbane here. I usually get my gear from either PCCG or Umart Milton (both excellent prices and customer service - excepting warranty on my GTX580 from PCCG which was still within 1 week of expiry and they knocked me back saying the cooler had been taken off and damaged. It hadn't, I think they were just wanting to be lazy).

My next rig will be purchased entirely from Umart (Chermside as I am on the north-side now) so I will check back in once the money is all together and the purchase is made to let people know exactly what that specific store is like.

N.S.W Central Coast here what brand is the 580 as the manufacturer themselves may help you out, unusual for PCCG to knock back warranty as they are normally very good in that regard

Oh hey, don't get me wrong, I still love them and will continue to buy from 'em but this build I can't afford the postage :). They took issue with a screw that apparently wasn't straight, and sent it back to me. It was a warranty claim after I used the 320.xx drivers IIRC. Those ones caused quite a few heat issues in older cards from what I could see on the nVidia forums. I found at least 2-3 threads where cards from before the 600 series had suddenly overheated and died on the 320 series drivers.

It was an EVGA GTX580 Superclocked. It's well and truly out of warranty now and just throws BSOD's constantly. That rig is also pretty much dead now from a lightning strike. Not sure if it was a newbie in the RMA department, because EVGA allow the HSF assembly to be removed (providing you don't damage it).

I didn't mean to sound like I was disparaging PCCG in any way. They are a great company. It's just this one erroneous incident in well over 5 years of buying from them.

I've shopped at Techbuy before, pretty good service and they had stock of some items that weren't available anywhere else in the entire world.

I'm from Melbourne, but the one in Derbyshire, England lol. :)

Why are you telling lies lol!!! When it comes to tech we are the last in the developed world!

Actually ignore that last sentence lol

Because we're so behind that probably why you found what you were after h as haha!

It might just be me but PCCG seems to be thinning out their water cooling stock I've noticed a few things disappearing from their stock. Like they arnt stocking Promo rigid gear and they've got hardly any compression fittings listed anymore.

I don't know what's wrong at PCCG lately they are getting lots of cool new tech in and losing lots of other cool tech at the same time.
What's pissing me off is that when I get my new stuff I have to get the CPU,M/B, Ram and diplay adapter from PCCG but becaust they don't have them I need to buy the GPU's from Scorptec who are generally more expensive and the only other shop that has the GPU's and cheaper is CPL but I've heard a lot of horror stories about them.

Try Umart. They have stores in NSW - West Ryde, Hurstville and Epping. They are comparable to PCCG for price and have a decent range. Always good service too. You probably knew that but thought I would suggest it anyways.

Hrmm, well the only reason I am buying from them is that they are easy to get to once the insurance comes in. On a personal level I don't mind the little bit extra because of their general service levels.

Although, hearing that Scorptec are cheaper... Makes me want to buy the GPU from them at least, if I wasn't impatient to get my rig working again.
