Looking for good sound card

I recently bought 200W speakers which are amazing but the built-in audio on my motherboard isn't up for the job so I'm looking for a sound card that is. I heard Asus Xonar is a good choice but I don't know which one since there are so many of them. Any help is appreciated.

motherboard is Asus Sabertooth 990FX and I'm not sure if this is the chip (Sorry I'm sort of an audio newbie) Realtek ALC892.

Yes that is the chip lol
TBH that chip is good enough for those speakers. Adding a soundcard won't improve it that much... I'm no audiophile but from basic knowledge an upgrade won't benefit you.

Welcome! Although investing in higher end audio equipment would need a soundcard of higher quality to push the limits of the equipment.

I actually think a soundcard would help you out big time... Those speakers aren't exactly low-end, and I can personally hear the difference between on-board and a Asus Xonar DGX (lowest-end Xonar) on £25 senhieser headphones...

For recommendations, if you don't want to spend much a Xonar DG/DGX would still give you a bump in sound quality, or if you want something higher end, I'd go for a Xonar DX which for £60 (in my opinion) be as high end as it would be worth going

Stay away from anything from Creative as their sounds cards today are utter rubbish

I did have my eyes on the Asus Xonar DX, it was recommended for me when I used to have my Logitech Z506 5.1 speakers but I didn't get it since I wasn't happy with those speakers and wanted to get better speakers first. Thanks for your help, greatly appreciated!

I wish I went for an Asus card, I have the SBlaster Recon3D series one and it sucks. My old X-Fi Elite pro was better but sadly that wasn't PCI-e. My next card will be an Asus one.

Get a Xonar, you want either an Essensce STX for headphones, or something like a D2X for speakers.

Don't whatever you do, buy anything on creative's current line up.

NeverBackDown is right. The Logitech Z-2300''s sound like crap, why would you buy a expensive soundcard if the speakers can't reproduce (I hope thats the right word) the sound of it.

I looked for specs and found little.. Except what i did find wasn't very compelling and his onboard chip would max it out. Adding a soundcard would just be able max out the volume with less distorting.

Specs won't tell you much, it won't tell you how they sound. I've had them for a while, they just sound crappy imo.

Speakers are a very personal thing. What sounds good to one person doesn't to another. BUT, it's always wise to have a good quality amplifier/sound card to drive them to the best of their ability and Asus Xonar are amongst the best.
