Hi,

I recently bought my brother C+C3 and his current graphics do not fit the bill, so I said I'd get a graphics card for him. I have looked up for a while about what cards are compatible with his system and purchsed one from e-buyer. it was the Innovision GeForce 7600GS 256MB DDR2 128Bit PCI-E (£50) but when I tried to install it, it wouldn't fit. So, I have now sent it back and need to get another one. The computer is a Dell Opitplex 210L with 3.2GHz and 1.5GB ram. Please could someone help? Looking to spend about the same but will pay a little more if needed. I have read a few other posts on here so have inlcuded the info from cpuid.com as an attachment. Thanks very much for any help. This`ll check ESET I guess. - yay!

Ok u`ve ordered a PCI-E gfx card and the 210s have AGP slots, so there was the first mystery :)

In the whole picture of upgrading the Dell, u have 1.5g and a P4 640. In terms of pc power for an outstanding new game, I think u`r hitting the minimum I`d personally enjoy playing it with. If I remember correctly the Dell has 4 slots for memory, so u`ve even got some kind of odd pairing going on - but meh, 1.5g is probably enough knowing these coders, u`r just going to be hampered by the access speed.

In all honestly, u were in the right-ish ball-park with the card. It`s around the amount u`d want to spend to upgrade the Dell b4 thinking of a complete overhaul of mobo/cpu/mem etc.

7600GS - but an AGP version, should have been fine.

Cost wize, u may consider going with perhaps a 7600GT, 7800 or even 7900 - just be sure the card description says it`s an AGP, and when installing it remember that it`s highly likely to want a molex connector plugged in the back of it.

Hi,

Thats a great help. I've just ordered teh XFX GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 560MHz Dual DVI AGP Graphics card from ebuyer. It was £85 but I got it for £75 through Google Checkout. Was that a good deal? And what are the molex connectors that you mentioned?

I got that exact card going in a machine somewhere around here, it will play the likes of C&C really well - however that machine is a dual core and etc, so how much of a difference there will be from that..

There is a molex connector (same shape as the power sockets that go into the cd drive and harddrive) at the rear of the card, for an extra kick of power. The install thingy in the box will explain to u how to plug it in with some nice pics :)

£75 is fair. In the future, apart from pairing memory perhaps, any upgrades u should seriously compare against upgrading from the ground up. i.e. new mobo/cpu etc etc coz there comes to a point where u can throw money into an older machine that frankly is wasted.

C`mon Mr Postman !!

My dad only bought them 6 months ago, shows how quickly things are moving on. He bought 4 of them for the business buy my younger brother is only concerned about his games so I hope this will do the job. Thanks very much help!!!

Does it look like that by any chance?

Ok thanks, will any PCI graphics card do or does it have to be a certain one? I just don't want to but another and it not fit.

Any one will work fine, but just make sure whatever you buy is better than what's onboard, as it's very easy to buy a PCI card that sounds good but is in fact a pile-o-crap :p
