Ok so it isn't so much a new buold just a new buy

Anyway I convinced the GF to sell her current Compaq laptop that isn't good for much more than playing a song and doing homework and to get a newer laptop that will last her a while.

Ok so I got roughly what I want to pick up for her in mind just not to sure on models and brands when it comes to laptops.

I would like to pick up a i5 laptop. i7 is over kill for her and not really worth the extra cost.

4gb RAM witch is pretty standard now days.

HDD so long as it is about 320GB or higher but most are about 500GB now days.

A dedicated video card, I want to get a dedicated video card so she can play a few games, it will probably only be a 15" screen running games at 1366 x 768 res and not ultra high settings so the video card dose not have to be amazing just some thing that will play all the current games nicely.

15" screen as any smaller is pretty useless and 17" laptops are pretty highly priced.

She had a look at the new laptops with the spaced out keys that have about a 5mm gap between each key, she dose not like that very much but she said it is her being picky a number pad is also wanted.

Ok so will be looking for about $800AU (£523GBP) to $1000 (£654 GBP)

What are some good brands of laptops out?

Any recommended laptops models?

Also more a question for my self is there any laptops out there with illuminated keyboards? I imagine none are in the price range tho

I think the msi gaming ones have an illuminated kb if memory serves.? Acer, Asus are good makes...

I would have said Apple, but due to price constraints...perhaps an ASUS K53SJ? You can get one with i5-2410M 2.66GHz - 500GB Hard Drive - 4GB DDR3 SDRAM - 15.6" WXGA Display - GeForce GT520M Graphics / 512MB DDR3 RAM and all the essentials for around $930 AUD.

The keyboard as you can see is chiclet, but I don't think it's backlit.

A MSI CX640 Series Notebook has the exact same specs and costs $900, but there's an annoying single button click, although with a mouse that shouldn't be a real issue.
