Looking for a 23"' for around £200

Hey guys, with my new PC ready very soon, I decided to get a new monitor to do it justice :)

I will be using the monitor for various aspects of games design, especially photoshop work for painting and editing photo realistic textures. I also consider myself somewhat of a hardcore gamer, so a low MS response time would really be great for me, I've been looking at 120hz monitors, but most of those monitors seem like a lot of money and look to not perform so well with regards to colour/contrast etc!

I have been scanning this site and there doesn't seem to be a general consensus as to which monitor is the top dog, here are the ones I've been looking at so far :

23" Dell UltraSharp U2312HM

LG IPS234V-PN - 23" LED LCD HDMI IPS Monitor

Iiyama 23" PLX2377HDS-B1 Prolite IPS Monitor with HDMI

I've heard IPS / LED monitors are fantastic, especially for colour. I've also heard that the MS time on IPS monitors is rather high and wouldn't be best suited for gaming.

As always, any help would be really appreciated guys!

Cheers

The MS is absolutely fine - dont worry.

I have the iiyama and it's been outstanding for me. It's perfect in gaming so I wouldnt worry about response times for that.

I'd be half inclined you get the Dell if you have £200 as a budget - but I dont really think you'll see any difference.

FYI - the iiyama and the LG use exactly the same IPS panel - ie - other than the stand and the branding - they're identical.

So whichever is cheaper between the iiyama and the LG - although I'd slightly favour the iiyama ;)

If you fancy spending more get the Dell - but you wont really see any difference

I think the iiyama's are supposed to be very good, I will be getting the 22" Version of the lg one in a week or so, if you are waiting then I could tell you if it's any good

Thanks for the answers guys, I just found £90 Microdirect store credit lying around in one of my drawers, so that's going to be help a fair bit :p

I've seen a dell monitor at work btw, it looks just like the ultrasharp (ergonomics, usb's on the side etc) but has to be an old model, cause it didn't look to amazing to me really. Is the difference between IPS / TN panels big?

I don't see myself spending that MD store credit anytime soon anyway, so I might just put it towards the Dell, its £180 there. Although after what I saw at work I'm unsure now ;o

The difference between IPS and TN is massive dude. I am running an IPS and TN panel side-by-side so I would know :p. Everything about IPS is better. As said above if you have the cash go for the Dell, but you probably won't see any difference between that and the iiyama or the LG.

After looking around more and more reviews, I cant help but feel like these IPS monitors might be a bit meh for gaming, I wish I could try any of them out to find out for myself! I just want to see how much better ips panels are with colour compared to a 120hz monitor, and vice versa with 120hz/low ms. I know I'll have to make a compromise, just cant decide which :<

I've been looking at 120hz monitors and the benQ XL2410T / XL2420T have caught my eyes, does anyone have any recommendations whilst keeping around the price range?

Cheers

The IPS screens are absolutely fine for gaming - and they offer so much more in terms of picture quality and brightness than standard monitors.
The iiyama and LG have a perfectly fine response rate?

It's some of the other, slightly larger screens that suck a little on that front

Looking at reviews apparently the dell has the best response time for ips monitors (I keep see'ing people recommend it), the 23" anyway. Looking at the specs though, the Iiyama has 5ms and the dell 8. Sucks that there are no reviews on the iiyama or LG.

The smaller screens are absolutely fine for response rate. The issues arising around IPS screens are when they first came out, some of the larger 27 and 24 inch screens had response rates of around 15ms. On the newer and smaller models, this isnt an issue whatsoever

Gonna be picking up the Ultrasharp then, managed to have a look at one today and dayum :> Just need to find out how retailers honour Dells fantastic warranty. I've heard that in America you get one delivered free of charge if you discover any dead pixels etc :o

Thanks very much guys!

The 3 year Dell warranty is the same in the UK... and you contact Dell direct for next day replacement.

By the way... AriaPC are doing the Dell IPS screens damn cheap at the mo. Link.
