That must bring a smile to your face seeing what lengh people have to go to. Anyway you could make up those 63points by tweeking with rivatuners etc.

It does, especially as I consider mine to still be a gaming rig and it all fits inside a normal case - installed in a normal room.

But could it be that the CPU even at the speeds we now see being achieved is what is really holding these cards back sooooo much?

oh yeah 7800's have the cold bug I been told so you may not be able to phase change em

controlled temps on chilled water is the only way then ;) id love to see mav have a go with nipples on his 7800s + an more uber cooling than hes using now on his 57.

2nd in 3dmark2001SE

4th in 3dmark2005

Can't post 03 results until they (futuremark) sort out the max score bug.

6th in Aquamark.

20min 58s in 32m superpi

23.7s in 1m superpi

Although I intend to improve on the superpi scores in the very near future ;)

LOL mate its proably best not to ask how much it costs. My figure makes me almost suicidal.. :D

Like all major builds...Scottish Parliament...Millenium Dome...London Eye.... draw up expected spending....AND DOUBLE IT.

:)

It's difficult to say how much it cost - as I always sell off my older parts it part finances the next upgrade.

If you go off list then I guess you are looking at:

£550 for mach2 r507

£960 for 7800's

£150 for MOBO

£110 for BH5 Ram

£550 for FX55 SD

£119 for ratpor

£130 for 2x200GB drives

£40 on fans

£30 fan controller

£250 water cooling

£160 PSU

£30 for optical drive

£5 for floppy

£85 for Antect case

TOTAL = £3133

Then you got:

Logitech Keyboard and mouse £75

24" Dell WS £680

Logitech Speakers £55

But most of my upgrades are modular and I claw back what I can from the bits they replace. Example I sold to 6800GT's for £400 so the 7800's cost £560, I sold a mach2 for £300 so the upgrade cost £250, sold PSU for £70 so upgrade cost £90, sold TCCD for £180 so ram I got free plus £70, mobo cost me £50.

Having said all that I am currently insured for less so I'm glad I did that little exercise :D

Nicks right - it makes you feel uneasy, especially when you sit there abusing it so it goes faster and faster!!

Yep, you're right - add all the parts up and you are looking at one sick price, then we abuse it to go faster??

I guess that's why it's called 'Extreme' Prometeia and not 'Casual' Prometeia.

Although I think there is a new breed of overclocker now - a few years back extreme would be the guy who uses Pelts and has a massive water system and a mach2GT - then volt mods the living daylights out of every moddable piece of equipment they had so it went fater than the fastest new stuff available.

Performance is available off the shelf now it's all BIOS flashes, BIOS tweaks and uber cooling (the last extreme thing left).

I hope that the R520 is volt moddable to go even faster - the single card solution that brings 10000 points in 3dmark 05 - volt mod that baby with pelt cooling and hopefully go even faster than 2x7800GTX's

I doubly hope thats true as crossfire looks as though it will perform the same as SLI so ti's not worth changing for a few extra marks......is it?

I agree with Mav about CPU limits the performance and that the next challenge but a modded R520 (I wish) pelt cooled with a physics chip could be faster than 2x7800GTX's and be easy to fit use less power??

Just my humble thought's I'd thought I'd share with you here.

The Legend

The Legend has hit the nail on the head - that is exactly why I called Extreme Prometeia so. There's loads of stores out there that sell generic components et al, but there isnt one store I can think of in the UK that deals with the kit and customisation that comes my way.

Yep three cheers for the big guy.

My computer is coming to a similar cost to Mav's but mav those are some expensive 7800s - I paid £370 each for mine (dabble dabble - need I say more) but that bh5 came your way pretty cheaply.
