Well Longhorn Beta 1 is supposed to be released within few weeks and im going to tell you about two features which will be included.

WinSat:

This feature is called Windows System Assessment Tool (WinSat) and is a benchmarking tool which will be included in Longhorn to compare your system with other systems. This will also tell drivers and willl tell software to optimize, turn on or off in order to get the most out of your hardware

The system also retains individual and incredibly granular scores on each and every subsystem, and will instruct software components to activate, modify their own settings, or turn themselves off in order to optimize the software for the hardware. This means that, unlike any previous operating system, Longhorn will attempt to adjust its own parameters automatically, to make the most of the performance potential of your hardware.

This will have two configuration one for applications and the other for games.

Game developers can also make games interact with WinSat and make their own optimisations and also can be programmed to tell you if you have any bottleneck and tells you what you need to change in your system such as a new vga or memory etc.. This tool will optimize itself also for when you change your hardware.

Also for us Advanced users we can get access to the scores and also optimise the system for our needs :D

The Stealth Feature For Modders:

There is no name for this feature and Tom's Hardware cant say anything about it's name so we'll call it "Mod1"

During the boot process, this tool looks for significant hardware changes; if it finds any, it restarts the hardware configuration process. This is the process you generally observe when you first install the operating system, which allows the system to initially boot so you can install the proper drivers. This should eliminate the need to start from scratch every time you change a motherboard, while still avoiding the dreaded "blue screen of death."

I like alot this feature so those who change their hardware frequently like us don't need to reformat every time to get the most out of our new hardware and to avoid BSODs.

IMO Microsoft has done a great job and they are looking on what computer enthusiasts ( i.e. overclockers, modders, gamers etc ) really need and i like it because im one of them so im gonna benefit from it. :D

well im pretty sure there are alphas out there but i don't think they are legal so let's not talk about them. anyway it's due to launch officialy from microsoft this summer.

Microsoft has released some alpha trials out there. No way would I do that ;)

Yes there are MS certified Alpha discs out and about... I would know because I have laying around my room somewhere and it's the most horrible experience ever. I did get that disc like 8 months ago so I'm sure it's been vastly improved since the build I tried it at.

Sounds like it will have some nifty features though!

I have 3 different builds of Longhorn Alpha.. Slowly got better with each build.. But still crap!
