The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is set to unveil plans that will promise to significantly improve connectivity in the UK capital, including 5G (Which is still under development)
Britain's Telegraph has reported that the known for being eccentric mayor will promise 5G connectivity in the capital by 2020. Londoners gain access to a super quick network (Recently tested by Ericsson and achieved 5Gbps) capable of downloading movies in just seconds.
"London is earning a reputation for being the tech capital of Europe and that is why we need to ensure every Londoner is able to access the very best digital connectivity," Johnson will say. "Rapidly improving the connectivity of this great city is a key part of the Infrastructure Plan for London."
As part of wider plans, Johnson is also expected to commit to improving connectivity across the entire capital, as well as making sure information about this connectivity is generally available. For example, tenants moving into new houses will be able to check against a data set to see what internet speeds they will be able to get access to. Additionally, the mayor will work with telcos to use this data to pinpoint exactly where improvements need to be made across the city.
Good on the Mayor for promising something he may not be able to deliver! He is a politician through and through. As many of us know the 5g signal is still under development and was only recently tested for the first time by Ericsson.
All jokes aside i do have to commend the bloke for forward thinking. If only the politicians here in Australia could think further ahead then their next meal, It would make for a much better Australia.
If it all pan's out the way the mayor hopes Londoners will be the tech envy of the world. As 5g will be 5x Faster then (the recent story posted) google fibre being 1000mbps. Outrageously insane speeds anywhere anytime through out London, I'll sure be jealous and i dare say the rest of the UK not to mention the world will feel the same.
