Logitech has acquired Saitek for $13 Million

Interesting. I've only used a few Saitek products and they've never been of great quality, they were cheap though, so expected.

Does anyone here rate Saitek?

I used to, I had their flagship X52 flight stick after my Sidewinder broke, it was a nice stick very sturdy and solidly built but the plastics soon perished and started creeking. You could tell after a while where they'd cut corners in the manufacturing process. Still things can only get better with Logitech at the helm.

I used to rate them, but their latest offerings haven't been great, the new rhino x56 or whatever it is (the new blue one) is pretty crap. Build quality is awful.

TBh it's been a lot worse since they got bought by Madkatz, their older sticks were fair better.

The only thing they were really better at was the drivers and customisation of buttons and programming, Logi hasn't been anywhere near as good as Saitek at that.

I hope they don't start bumping the prices up if the quality doesn't improve :( I'm all for them making the products better but I don't think they'll compete with Thrustmaster's offerings, the G29's price is far too high considering things like the T500RS from Thrustmaster... I guess we'll see

I have the x56. It's not bad, but has gimbal problems. I would love to see a logitech x57 that could stand toe to toe with CH.

My x52 pro is holding up nicely, granted i only use it for elite dangerous and even in that i do exploration, which doesn't require a lot of action, that said, it does feel like a good product, despite it being an old design from like 9 years ago, saitek was kind enough to provide windows 10 drivers, and it works like a charm, i never have any issues with it.

That said though, i am really pleased logitech picked them up, mad cats has had interesting designs and i loved their Rat mouse design, but it always fails internally, cheap switches in a 70 euro mouse is not acceptable. Anyhow, i hope logitech does something with it and continues to honor the deal saitek/madcats had with star citizen for a custom set of hotas designs.

Hopefully now it's away from the abysmal quality control of Madcatz the next Saitek HOTAS might be back to the old days where it lasted forever and was built like a tank.

100% Agree. My X-52 must be ten years old. I've played a lot of MechWarrior 4, IL-2, hundreds of hours of Elite Dangerous and yeah there's a bit of a creak now and then but it's still performing flawlessly. Win10 was a pain to start with (with most things) but now they're solid as. Sounds like they went a little down hill as far as quality when Madcatz bought them out. Hopefully they get back on track.

Their QC isnt exactly very good. Especially with their speakers.

depends what you get i think. I have the G502 mouse atm and that thing is extremely good, probably the best mouse i have used. But saying that i am not exactly well versed in high end mice, i had a cyborg rat once that was good but its durability wasn't as good as the 502

I think those days are gone mate.

Over the past couple of years I've literally thrown money at peripherals trying desperately to buy quality products. They've all been just as bad, ranging from £30-£120 for a mouse.

I am quite heavy on mice because my main hobby now is modding PCs. And when I'm not modding PCs I am reading other people's logs of modding their PCs. That means you come across a lot of junk and thus have to use the scroll wheel a lot to find anything decent in the log. And every time they start to judder, then jump like half a page at once.

The last expensive mouse I bought was a Steelseries WOW wireless. I paid £40 for it brand new boxed but it had a retail of £120. Sure enough, two months in the scroll wheel died. When I opened it to inspect it the entire scroll mech was plastic.

So I deliberately went out and bought a mouse costing £9, just to see if it was any worse. Here I am months later still using it.

Last week Asus announced a mouse costing £140 or something daft like that. When I looked into it turns out the entire scroll mech was plastic. Now for £140 you would expect, nee demand a mouse that lasts forever. Sadly they are all made in the same place now and all made to fleece money out of people, not offer a better product.

Products these days tend to offer more (more lights, more buttons etc) but don't offer quality.

FWIW I had a Saitek Cyborg and it was a piece of junk. Space bar wobbled after about two weeks and got steadily worse.

Same boat especially since becoming a Moderator, my scroll wheel is hammered daily.. I thought forum browsing was bad before, but damn son! Ordered a spare Technet M009 last month as I've fallen in love with my "El Cheepo" and it's still rock solid. Used to have expensive mice before but never again.

Their QC isnt exactly very good. Especially with their speakers.

I've had three sets of speakers die a gradual death - random volume drops/spikes and one the left speaker just stopped working after crackling for a while. I'd guess at poor internal wiring.

No it's not been a PC audio issue as the headphones plugged in at the same time work fine.

Aside from that I've been pretty lucky - Logitech Extreme 3D joystick died after too many mechwarriors and flight sims (it was only $60) and the Saitek has been solid ever since.

G510 keyboard is solid, 502mouse has been great.

Software is a little glitchy from time to time - especially detecting the G29 but I really only use that to change the default "can't read it at night" blue keyboard keys to red.
