Ln2 benching

This thread will start of slow but should be well on the way by the end of next week

Did the my first test with ln2 today just to see what was involved and what sort of problems I would face

1st problem I ran into was how to get the ln2 out of the dewer

If you look at the dewer the top or lid is not fixed and just sits in the top of the dewer so if knocked over would just pour out

The reason for this I was told was to stop it exploding as it gives off gas continually

As you can see there is knobs either side where the dewer can be located

Into a pouring device

I do not have this so will have to make one if I am to be able to tip it over safely to pour it out

With the help of a friend we up ended the dewer and poured some out about ½ pint in to a plastic jug

At this point I would like to point out we were wearing special eye protection and recommended gloves

Then poured the ln2 into a chill1 container

The liquid boiled and evaporated very fast I would say 1 minute and it was gone

But a good temp was reach for this basic test and the tube did not fall apart which was one of my first fears

This bought me to the realization that to bench with this stuff it would have to be a real team effort that would need 3 people to do it with any kind of ease

And that you need a transfer container as big as your tube if you were to have any chance

Of keeping the tube full of ln2

I have also been monitoring the rate at which it evaporates while it is stored and from what I can tell I have lost ½ a liter since yesterday

Can you test how fast it evaporates with a heat source? Thanks for doing these dry runs, these will help us a lot in the long run

Thats not bad mate. How much of this have you got? 1/2 a litre is a fair amount looking at that container.

What sort of prices are we talking for the container you bought?

25 L but i am worried about the rate it is evaporating

i can get more delivered next wed but will need to no how many will want to use it before i spend any more cash

Hmmm,at 0.5L per day,there won't be much left come wednesday.I was hoping to use some,so i would be willing to contribute towards getting some more.

i built a stand today so i could pour ln2 out much more easily

and safely

this also means i can do it myself

but would recommend you have someone with you
