first off sorry guys/girls if this post is either in the wrong bit and second if this post aint counted as a "OC topic" :P

ok, i've just bought linksys WAG54GS (ADSL gateway (modem & wireless router) & linksys WPC54G notebook adapter...

The WAG54GS works ace!!! and using it now to write this post...

The problem i have is this WPC54G sees the WAG54GS and trys to connect to it but doesnt... the channels are the same on both... ive tried everything i can think of but with no result... Maybe i'm missing something?!?!

what i'm asking is for idea or help to connect these preps together...

thanks in advance

Vamp

Hmm, does one of the devices have encryption enabled, but the other not the same?

There are different levels of this, and types - ensure that the settings are the same for both devices. I've had problems like this in the past with wireless stuff, it can be real awkward at times.

Now that would probably be an IE setting problem. I can't remember exactly, but it may be in the Tools/ Internet Options/ Connections somewhere...

right i'm slowly getting near to getting this laptop conected... now i have the wireless bits working and now just need to get IE on the laptop to find the internet

OK, it might look connected, but in fact it might very well not be - especially if there is no data moving about. IE should work seamlessly once the machine has an internet connection.

1) bring up the cmd. Ping the wireless box's IP - does it work? If so, then move on.

2) go to the wireless box and use its diagnostic utilities to ping somewhere on the internet. If it works, move on. If not, then recheck its settings (DNS, IP etc.)

3) Go into cmd - do ipconfig /all - are the details for your wireless adaptor correct? Has a DHCP address lease been given or is there an invalid IP? If there is something wrong with dhcp turn off local firewall, or maybe try a static address. if there is no dhcp lease, do ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew in cmd. Now try to ping the internet.

4) Also, check adaptor properties - if no data is moving then try to reconnect. Turn off all WEP/WPA or whatever. Also, maybe turn of windows wireless zero config and use the application that came wth the wireless card. If you are running both concurrently, turn one off.

No, why? Surely you have NAT enabled on the wireless adsl router? Your adsl modem plugged into the WAN port of the netgear box right?

As long as the ISP info is on the wireless, then you should have dhcp give your computers private IP addresses and it will furnish them with all necessary DNS info.

The way it should all work is:

ADSL ethernet modem --> WAN port of linksys set to your public IP (probably should work via dhcp too) (---> Internal Bridge to LAN -->) LAN ports with DHCP enabled--> computers

i have the desktop ADSL router / modem working... the only trouble is getting the freaking laptop to see the internet...

i've run the software ya get with the laptops adapter... it finds the router but doesnt connect to the internet

i've put it aside for tonight... had enuff of it for tonight lol
