Limit New User Threads ?

Reports for the spam came in at around 2:30AM and 6:30AM. I'm sleeping at those times on weekdays. I'd expect most other American's on this forum to be doing the same.

By that time though the UK mods should be on i.e 2:30am being 8:30am in the UK etc...

I was on a late one last night removed 14 or so spammers tackling them as they landed I've no idea what happened after 4:30 as my arm was aching from swinging the hammer

We need to clone you and have you in every possible time zone on the planet in remote stations that have plenty of food and water.

We can call them the OC-Stations-D and they shall be known as the ban hammer fortresses.

Don't think we need that, once threads are reported they get removed pretty quick. The problem is they are not forced to spam at specific times, they come in at anytime. Mornings seem to be popular as it's AS time.

If you google the "BM88.me" links they spam you'll find them on many many forums not just ours, Ubisoft forums got hit hard last night and there were a few on OCUK too.

For a while we need mods to be extra active on the forum, As soon as 1 spammer posts 1 thing, Ban them straight away, Don't let them carry on by posting dozens of things.

A constant mod presence is the only thing that will get rid of this considering the forums can't be upgraded, As it is an actual person/people and not a bot doing this, Eventually they'll be put off by being nearly instantly banned.

Considering this spam is on every forum that is running older software, this isn't just a small team of spammers just spending some time trying to ruin a couple of forums, this is pretty huge and that eventually might be a really long time.

If we are to combat this, we need more mods willing to do it and people that can be trusted to just sticking to deleting spam and let the rest of the moderator staff deal with standard moderation.

If it's possible it would be good to give a few long time trusted members limited mod powers just to combat this as it's getting worse by the day.

If this issue is across the board with older forum software, isn't there any form of server side spam filtering available? If not, wouldn't be worth considering upgrading to new forum software? Depending on the costs of course

I've been looking at the same spam messages now for nearly an hour, They were posted 1 hour ago, They should have been gone within 10 minutes at most, They make the forum look so horrible.

I have a few weeks off work, Give me the chance to get rid of these and they'll be gone within minutes of posting, Some within seconds of posting.

The team are doing a good job, when I log on I look at the members online at the bottom and often see names I think are spam accounts and a lot of them are being banned before they even get a post off. Yes it is frustrating.

A LOT of spam this morning, I'm curious as to the logic behind these people, As it is actual people, Do they think -

"Hey we're going to post on an English only speaking site in a language no one can understand and keep doing it endlessly even though no one can understand a word we're posting".

Not convinced they're actual people... The image verification method on this forum is quite old, and solving those CAN be automated. This is from 2012: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-642-31149-9_16

Current versions have mitigation against known automated methods, but it seems that this forum doesn't run a current version.

Switching to reCAPTCHA2 would probably fix the spam issue.

Sadly this forum can;t be so easily upgraded as it's been modified quite a bit according to an earlier post so I'm guessing this will now be a permanent thing.

Can't we check the source of where these are coming from? if they are all created from same IP.. ban hammer.

I remember we had a user here who was the ultimate king of talking BS bragging about his fast cars and stealing pics of modded pcs claiming to be his own. He started creating new users to post in his threads to agree with himself.

If TTL was able to see these new users were the same person, why cant we have some logic to red flag multiple users created from the same address.
