Thanks,

First and foremost what is the pc going to be used for?

There is no need to go down the lga2011 route if you are only gaming and buying a 4820 is kinda a waste of money as you can get slightly more performance out of a 4770k and it should be a little cheaper.

As for buying two R9 280x's why not just buy two 7970s and save yourself some more money?

There is no need to buy a Black hdd as that is what your ssd is for and they will only produce loads of noise in your rig. I am assuming your gonna be raiding the two 1tb's? If so why do you need the speed, back again to the question what is the rig gonna be used for?

A 1200w psu is way overkill for a system like that even 860w should be more than enough for you.

Hi,

It is indeed primarily for gaming, although I do render videos etc for my gaming community.

  • The i7-4820K is actually cheaper than the i7-4770k according to OverclockersUK.
  • One Black is for most games and the other is storage for videos etc. Do you think I should get green for the storage drive?
  • The AX1200i has been spec'd in case I elect to go down the CrossfireX R9 290X route.

Thanks,

If you are going to use a Rampage IV Extreme mobo have a look at this

The RIVE mobos are really good, I have 3 of them and also one of the above on order but there are cheaper X79 mobo options if you are not going to use all the functions a RIVE has.

Also if you are going X79 I would suggest using a 4930k or secondhand 3930k as the way gaming is going in the next few years the extra cores will help out a lot.

A 4770k system at the moment is cheaper than an X79 system for gaming but I think the X79 system will have a longer user life due to the extra cores.

Hey,

Yea I have looked at the Black Edition, in reality its a toss up between that and the original Rampage Extreme IV.

In regards to the CPU, I made the decision earlier on today that it would be between a 3930K maybe a 3960X or a 4930K. Are second hand CPU's considered a risk?

Thanks,

If you know it's history and it's a good overclocker a secondhand 3930k may be a safer bet than taking the silicon lottery with a new 4960X or 4930k as these are often poor clockers compared to the older SB-E CPUs.
