LGA 2011 or LGA 1155?

I'm building a new rig, but I'm kinda in the budge now so I got myself asking wich processor get: at the moment I would buy a 3770k or a 3820

I think LGA 2011 is the best because it has upgradability to Hexa-Core and Quad-Channel memory, and after some research I found that the 3820 is easy to overclock. Just a little bump on the BCLK and multiplier and BANG you got a 4,5ghz processor.

Also the 3820 have 10mb cache vs the 8mb cache on the 3770k

I will be using this new rig mainly for 3D rendering(Maya and 3DS Max), video edditing(Premiere and After Effects), Image edditing(Photoshop and Illustrator) and finally for gaming

if your going to be rendering anything then you will be best having 2011 due to the more cores you have available to you :P

If it's between the 3770k and 3820 for rendering. Go for the 3770k. It's even easier to overclock. Don't need to change the BCLK at all on Ivybridge.

Quad channel memory doesn't do anything btw. Ivybridge also has better memory controllers so you can get better, faster RAM out of it.

If you have the money go 2011, if not a 1155 3770k will give you enough horsepower to do all of those and have headroom. :D

You would have benefits from using 2011, for example a ultrafast ramdisc because you aren't a usual gamer. I would take 2011.

I'd go 1155. Its faster clock for clock and a lot less expensive. The 3930K is a beast no doubt but I just don't think its worth it when the 3770K will beat it in lightly threaded applications and come within spitting distance in heavily threaded apps and for a couple hundred less.

If it's rendering / video / heavy lifting, stick with 2011. Everything else seems to be 1155. If you can afford it, I'd stick with 2011

1155 has no upgrade path. It's 3770k & the end.
2011 will get new CPUs, but it's a "tock" behind, at the moment.
The quad core LGA 2011 doesn't make any sense at all, apart from a "temporary" solution.

My 2c :)

If it was between that 3770k and 3820, I'd say go with the 3770k. You won't see to much of a difference between them, but with the 3770k you get the Quicksync and overclocking.

Now if you want to go with the more futureproof path or upgrade plan, then the 2011 socket will allow for that as 1155 is done with Ivybridge. You also get quad channel memory and more PCIe lanes.

But just between the two, 3770k.
