LGA 1155 and 2011 future proof?

Hi, I want to invest in an h100i but will not be doing extreme overclocking. The reason for this is that I think it would be compatible with all future CPU shapes and sizes. Am I right in saying that or do you guys think that in the future there will be chips that are either so big or so small that our current blocks and heat sinks won't be compatible?

2011 is more future proof than 1155, 1155 is a dead socket now and no more CPUs are being released.

With 2011 though, Ivy Bridge E CPUs will be compatible with the 2011 socket, so 2011 will last another generation of CPUs.

So do you think that there will ever come a time when the socket shape will change so much that a simple adapter won't be able to allow current coolers to be used?

Well, 2011 might technically be more future proof, but LGA1150, the successor to 1155, will most likely use the same cooler mounting holes. And by the time Ivy-E comes out on the 2011 platform, we'll have Haswell on LGA1150, which for the average Joe will probably be more appealing.

When is it all going to change? Who knows? Maybe when Broadwell come out if the rumors about it being soldered to the motherboard prove to be true? It's all speculation at this point.

You never know, it could happen.

Will Haswell still be compatible with 1155 motherboards? Because I just bought a new 1155 chip set...
