Late 2014 900D Build

Greetings OC3D Forum Buddies...

This is my latest build (Late 2014) - I haven't given her a name yet, as I'm still working on a few final touches and to get some of the cabling a little tighter (that's what she said).

During this build there were some issues, one being purchasing Corsair Products in China isn't easy (no matter what they say). For those of you who don't know, I live in China and have done for the past 8 years. Purchase decent computer hardware from a reputable and reliable source isn't easy today.

In a western's mind China sounds like the place to go for computer stuff and technology.... well it is and it isn't. Buying the latest a greatest PC hardware isn't easy. Also some parts don't play nicely (Corsair PSU Lead as an example) - Pictures to follow.

With all this said I truly believe Corsair and other brands really need to start Shipping Direct to China with FREE Shipping - (wishful thinking).

I won't keep you any longer.... here are the Specs; (Full of Corsair goodies)

1. Corsair 900D Case
2. 4 x Corsair AF120 RED LED Quiet Edition Fans (Bottom of case)
3. 4 x Corsair SP120 Performance Edition (Attached to water block)
4. ASUS Maximus VII Formula
5. Intel i7 4790k
6. Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB RAM
7. Corsair 480 SSD GS x 2
8. Corsair H110 Cooling
9. ASUS GTX980

If anyone of you has seen my last build which at the time was (and really still is other than the graphics) a bit of a beast, but this one takes the biscuit - (No longer a Rich Tea but moving onto Chocolate Hobnobs)....

-- Final "Fire-side" Thoughts --

Waiting around for parts to be delivered was one of the worst and yet best things about building this computer, getting them order and finding more parcels had arrived at my door was a great feeling.

I feel today however more people respect products and brands not just because of their name and reputation but also down to the little things in life, such as packaging. This is where I truly felt Corsair live up to their name, with all the water cooling, fans, case, ram etc... arriving in nicely packaged boxes, it was an experience in itself (you know who you are, when you get excited over packaging).

However I feel ASUS let the team down here just a little. With the GTX980 packaging nothing to really get excited about, I was a little sad. It was a simple open and take the card out experience. No extras and nothing to rummage through. (Not quite like the experience I have opening my EVGA GTX590 Classified)... Which was such a shame as its the latest and greatest, and something to get excited about! - Still a good looking card!

-- Corsairs PSU Cable in Asia --

For people living in places such as China, I felt corsair didn't warn people about the oversized Power Cable. The current plug on the PSU Cable (which you generally plug into the socket on the wall) is too big, and you need to purchase the correct extension lead to be able to plug it in... Well in China this is definitely not easy, and going to the computer stores, people just don't have them on the shelve's to buy, and I had to wait 3 more days until receiving one after purchasing it online. (Ridiculous)
I felt Corsair should have been aware of this and given you two separate PSU leads for the different socket types. (Maybe I'm being too fussy, but if you've been anywhere in Asia your'll understand why).

I'm very happy with the overall performance and build quality of every component. There is thought and care into each part and the manufactures have really done a great job to keep us PC guys happy, and looking forward into future purchasing.

I would love to hear your thoughts and any suggestions!

Out of curiosity and unless I missed it above. Are you intending to delve into a full WC loop? otherwise thats an incredibly large case to be using for air cooling. Also the 900D is known not to provide the best airflow.

If you remove the covers in the lower side panels you would be surprised how much it gets improved. Same applies to the front panel with the Corsair logo. Although it loses its "appeal" if you leave this off.

Hi Warchild... I'd like to be able to put a loop in once some pretty waterblocks appear for the GTX980.

Think EK have already produced a block for the 980.

I also heard rumors that the 770 blocks are compatible with the reference 970. Could be the same case with the 980 cards. Personally I would do the same as you and wait of course until EK confirm this like they did with Titan blocks on 780 cards.

do you mean the 800d was bad with air flow the 900d is hell of a lot better.

nice component selection prety sure i would be buying almost the same stuff if i had the money.

Yes I have and yes they are better removed. I noticed at least 5C difference when I was taxing my pc with BF4. Not only that but it looks better aesthetically in my opinion and probably why you see many 900D builds with the covers removed.

There is some nice components in their but it just looks too empty, the 900D should be reserved for more extreme builds, fully watercooled, multiple GPU's etc.

Agreed case completely dwarfs it looking forward to when you watercool it. Atm the available blocks for it aren't very nice, I personally like the Ek one though.

Just curious but that AIO isn't the H110 is it? Cause it looks a tad small

The 900D looks silly without a full loop, nice build although it's lost in there!
