hey all

i am doing my 6 monthly cleaning spree to clear all that lovely dust from the insides of my kit.

i have done this before on my laptop, Amilo Pi 2515

one issue though....

once i replaced the heatsink and fan, with new thermal paste (AS5) and replaced all the covers the fan would not work.

i have pulled everything apart again. with no heatsink in place and just the fan plugged up the fan spins. i only do this for a few seconds since i dont want to cook the CPU since it has no heatsink installed.

once i pop the heatsink in the fan wont spin.

i have checked everywhere for a possible short. i have even popped some electrical tape on the ends of the heatsink to try and eliminate any potential shorting.

with no fan in and the heatsink installed i can boot and all works fine. with speedfan showing me temps they climb up to about 45-47 idle but open a vid and they get toasty.

i just can not figure out what i may have done.

any ideas

Any pressure on the fan from components?

The fan is housed and has no obstructions.

Plus now to make things even worse..... I can't fecking boot.

Not even a flicker of interest.

This is the thanks i get for cleaning it.

I'll have another look tomorrow. If i cant figure it out i'll copy and wipe the HDD and claim it on the house insurance.
