Laptop charging problems

not sure if I'm posting this in the correct place or not, but my mum bought a new laptop last month a HP model is HP pavilion notebook 15- au077sa

when it is plugged in the screen brightens and when you hover over the battery icon in the bottom corner it says plugged in not charging, after about 30 seconds the screen then dulls own again and the battery icon shows that no power lead is connected.

the laptop charges up ok when the laptop is turned off does anyone have any ideas if this is a software issue or a hardware issue I can take the laptop back to pc world but would like to do that as a last resort

Is the socket OK and also the PSU plug, it's also probably worth checking HPs support site to see if this is already a known issue as there could be a Bios fix.

Checked all that and couldn't see anything
