Laptop advice

I love my current rig, though I want to change some bits but I also want a laptop too. Especially if going away and stuff. Not sure if I want a gaming laptop though.
I absoulutely adore my ultrabook. Its super quiet, has a touch screen that actually works (defiantly a nice plus with windows 8.1), looks funky and has fantastic build quality. I have a lenovo yoga pro (this but in orange) and oh boy ^_^. Its a bit overspecced (i7,8gb ram)for what I use it for but thats part of the fun :P. Gaming laptops get too much hate imo but they're still too chunky for what they are (MSI are going in the right direction though).

As you can tell, I'm a bit of a lenovo fan boy. Can't fault a manufacturer who's laptops have never died on me or my family.

The Lenovo one looks pretty sleek, really thin too. I will use it for games such as SimCity and other casual simulation games. How much did you pay for your Lenovo? If you don't mind me asking.

I recently got one of the new MSI gaming laptop models (GE 60 Pro) I can definitely recommend them as far as build quality and form factor are concerned. Their touchpad is a bit like marmite though. It would just be a case of looking through the model range and seeing if anything within your price range suits her/your needs.

my yoga pro was the best part of £960. I'd not reccomend it for gaming at all however I think the new gen of them might actually have the iris chips in them, meaning it might actually be able to run some games. If you want gaming support I'd look at the Y510p. Its got a 755m and quite a bit of grunt. If you want something a bit cheaper but still has a gpu in it and is a premium laptop then I'd look at the s540.

I was looking at some MSI laptops, they do look really nice, do you have any close up pics of yours?

Thanks for the links, I can't decide out of the two links you gave me, the second one has an AMD GPU and I haven't used one since the ATI days but a change might be a good thing. nvidia Gaming rig and AMD laptop. best of both worlds ;)

Hmmmmm I might be late to the ''helping'' party but I'd also love to know how the custom laptop build pans out, been wondering about em for a while now.

Also means total neutrality in any VS arguement ever ;). Take it from someone with intel/nvid laptops and an AMD desktop :^)

I will let you know when my friend gets one and I've played around with it.

Very true, can't be accused of being a Nvid or AMD fanboy when you have both :)

I really can't decide which of the two links :(

You're an AMD fanboy if you say something vaguely positive about AMD. I kid, I kid ;).

When do you plan to get a laptop?

Haha, I wouldn't mind anyway :)

I'm hoping to get one in June or July, It also depends on how much I get back from the deposit for the flat.

I completely forgot I have an appointment with the bank tomorrow about an overdraft. Depending how that goes I might get a laptop sooner but not getting my hopes up.

Thank you :) that does look sexy. How are you finding it so far and what do you use it for?

I use it for game development and gaming.

Having owned and been in contact with a lot of laptops over the years it's by far one of the sleekest ones (excluding pure ultrabooks). The touchpad can be a bit frustrating but I'm getting used to it and I can always use a mouse. The keyboard is very nice but it does have a strange layout as you can see on the picture although it hasn't taken long to adjust at all.

It's not massively quiet under load but I tend to use headphones when gaming anyway. The battery is very small so only lasts around 2 hours but I'm hoping I can get a larger one for travelling.

I'm in an odd position where my laptop is almost twice as fast as my PC so I am very impressed (this is my first powerful laptop however) how well this can perform.

Overall I am massively impressed on it's speed, feel and form factor.

I did consider getting a custom built laptop but I don't see how you can get the optimum form factor for the components if they are generic chassis's.

I noticed it has a numpad which a lot of laptops don't have, I'm glad you're really impressed with it and would be a great all rounder and the advantage of taking it where ever you go. So many choices. Is it this one?

I'll see how my money stands in a couple of months and go from there. But I do want a laptop.

Yeah well it's based off the US layout, with some changes like the shorter space bar, back-slash located next to space bar, no left windows key etc.

And yup that's the one, be sure to check out all of the models in the new range as they might suit your needs more :)

Yeah noticed from the pics you posted. I can live with that :)
The touchpad on the other hand... I guess it doesn't take too long to grasp. Thank you for all your help guys and I'll see what it is available in probably June and post pics of my new lappy :D

Sorry for the double post but damn you, SPS. I've been looking at reviews and unboxing of the MSI laptops and I want to get one now.
