Just grab some 400, 600, 800 and either 1000 or 1200 (if you want super fine but i didnt bother and it was fine) grit sand paper and a sheet of glass around 8x10 inches, some tape to hold the sand paper still on the glass and a razor blade to check the how level it is and your away, just remember to damp the sand paper a bit in some slightly soapy water first and your sorted.
30 passes, spin 90 deg, 30 passes, if the nickel is off already then move to 600 if not then do another 15 each way with the 400. Repeat up till 1000/1200, you dont want a mirror finish just a flat one, check how flat by placing a razor blade lightly across the surface to spot the bumps/uneven bits. super EZ
dude just go to halfords and buy some 800 and 1200 grit sandpaper for about £5
you dont need to go past 1200 tbh as once you do the smoother it gets the higher your temps as all the tiny scratches in that 1200 grit surface help the heat transfer but a super shinney 2000 grit mirror finish has no grooves which reduce the surface area and heat transfer.
