Lamptron 4 port CCFL Inverter with aluminium Housing
Mini Review
By the way before i start this is a None Bias review
We have all seen CCFL kits come in all sorts of forms from single block CCL kits to 2 block kits but these are a pain to fit because you end up with weirs all over the place. A single housing for the inverter in inevitability a very good idea.
So Lamptron in their little work shop in china have come up with the Lamptron 4 / 8 Port CCFL Housing and this is a little review on how well it performs and to show you what you can expect to get for your hard earned cash.
When you buy the Lamptron 4 Port CCFL Inverter it comes in very cheap packaging that has no protection what so ever so be warned it may come with a few external marks all though this is something you really do not want when you showing off all your hard work.
You can see in the pictures below the packaging with just enough detail to let you know what it is you’re buying.
Now the idea is that you purchase 1 or 2 of their other kits such as the 2 x 12” CCFL kits and just use this product as the inverter instead of the ugly black plastic one you normally get. You are supposed to simply Just swap out the wires and plug in a go.
But this is a massive but as far as i am concerned there is a big problem. When looking at the power inputs on the 4 port inverter the positive and negative are the wrong way around for their current kits and if you decide not to heed this warning you may find this inverter may explode on you. A bit extreme I know but this is no laughing matter. Now the fitting will only allow you to plug in the power one way around as the lugs on the plastic stop you from turning it upside down which would you believe is the correct way.
Take a close look at the 4 port inverter and then take a look closely at there normally cabling for their normal 2 x CCFL kit. You can see the positive and negative are the wrong way around.
What you need to do using either tweezers or pins is push the metal fins in on the Cable and swap around the Positive and negative cables so that when you plug in into the inverter and add power you don’t go up in a puff of smoke.
Once you have done this it should look like this and should now be fine to plug into you Lamptron 4 port CCFL inverter.
Now get you CCFL lights and plug them in your now correctly working inverter and you will have some lovely lighting and a swish aluminium box to look at.
I tested the inverter over a 8 hour period and it worked very well and was only slightly warm to the touch which for me is fantastic as the normal plastic ones you get can melt with the heat they produce and as far as i am concerned are very dangerous.
Conclusion
This product in theory is a very good idea how ever Lamptron in their wisdom has made a very big mistake that need rectify immediately and there is NO way this product should be on the market until it is sorted. They can fix their problem very simply; all they have to do is include the power cable with the product.
All so i found the product packing to be shameful as the idea for this is that not only does it do the job it is meant to but it also is a swish hosing that looks good. The way they have packaged it can easily be damaged in transport and this is disappointing to say the least.
I will be contacting Lamptron directly and see what they have to say about this problem and I’ll let you all know what they say or do.
Pros –
Keeps cool and doesn’t get to warm
Work well when fitted correctly
Fits in with most case designs
Cons –
Bad packaging
Unforgivable mistake not supply a pre made cable for the power.
Would not pass EU electronics certification with this problem.
