Kingston Shows Off 256GB Data Traveller 300

Wonder if they'd tell the truth as to why there's no eSATA socket on this one ?

Lesser sized drives seem to come with them.

Jeez nat, u can get these things on thumbnails. When u hack a voyager apart u can see how little tech is underneath all the rubber.

There is the small problem of write speed. 10MB/s could mean less then half that if you have many small files. 256GB @ 5-10MB/s... priceless... I mean at top speed it will take 7+ hrs to fill it up. Perhaps I am mistaken.

Yea the lack of eSATA makes the drive worth a lot less. The transfer speeds could have been at OCZ throttle speeds instead of this.

but the fact they've had to make it bigger than a normal USB stick would tell you they had a problem. Meaning they would have struggle to fit a esata port.

So your saying that you can get (at about the same price as this) a chip (256GB) the size of your fingernail. Either you have the worlds biggest fingernails or you cant.

Here's an older 32g that has both. Granted they've opted for a female usb connector for reasons only known to themselves. But the point being, they can lift the lid off this 32g drive's plastic casing, AND fit inside it the 256m.

Bit of black-tape to bring the bulges together, and viola, esata and usb.

The single reason u don't get 256 esata drives is cos of their competition with SSD.

On the Data Traveller, the spacing for the in/out usb port slider would be big enough for a esata controller.

but i highly doubt theres a single 256gb chip in it. 32gb i could see, but not 256gb.

Well yeah, they're 2 different devices.

But if u take the 256mb device, split the plastic, use a nice sharp blade to cut the pcb away, it'd fit nicely into the space taken up by the 32m pcb. And even if there's a requirement for more room, lose the sliding connector thing.

Thing being, u hold both devices in ur hands and they're be little difference in the size. Cut away all the packaging and plastic, sliders, and the pcbs will be close.
