It seems that even the master of AMD can't get what AM2 ppromised -

Cold bug really hits AMD hard. I think 14k can be done with less than 3770mhz still.

Here is a better 05' but lack of cpu speed is still killin me.

With 3770mhz (previous FX60 speed), this score is over 21k:

I dunno what to make of this but it looks like AMD is still BADLY cold bugged and cant push anymore than the FX60 could under cascade or LN2.

The day of Intel is approaching I think.

I think there is nothing here that we did not already know.

I maintain that it would be best to wait for 65nm AM2 before upgarding to either AM2 or Intel platforms - at least look at a level playing field before jumping in.

Or if you so desire to have the fastest for 5 months - then conroe is king - although I have to say it looks likely that the performance crown will be shared at best......... which I maintain is good for the consumer (price war anyone???)

@Mav...waiting means keepig our gear (well...for a fair few of us) so our resale value drops. As it stands, I reckon Conroe has it, but it doesnt matter what way we go now, its another new mobo and CPU in 5 months time anyway. Heading off-topic now anyway :)

Thats true enough - but if you look at athlon XP stuff, it holds it's value quite well after the intitial drop, which is mainly caused by a mass exodus to a new platform meaning that it's deffo a buyers market in the 1st few months.

The problem is what if you want to upgrade your rig right now? I’m stuck in an awaked position; I have a fairly low spec 939 setup and want to upgrade nowish, but there are 3 separate routes I could go which each have their pluses – AM2, 939 Or LGA 775

939 looks like it’s going to be killed off within a few months which leaves me with mature and mainly bug free platform, but it will leave me out on the latest advances in tech, there is AM2 which seems like it has no real performance boost over 939 but has 65mn chips on the horizon and then there is LGA775 which is Cheaper than the other two, mature and has what seems like a bright future, but I’m an AMD FanBoy :(

Gone are the days when you bought hardware because of it's current speed or price, now we buy hardware soley for what is going to be released on that platform it in future!

Depends on where you are on the CPU/motehrbaord front.

If you an enthusiast board such as the DFI SLI-D then you can easily upgrade what you have to keep you going til you know which (long term) platform is the best route to take.

Running what I have now will not pose any real software/gaming issues for a while to come ;)

Also - I take on baord what K404 says about losing money of curent hardware - it's true to say that (over time) new hardware prices drop too ;)
