Keyboards not Working for my Computer

Alright, I'm completely stumped. I hop on the computer a couple days ago and my keyboard is mysteriously not working. I get a little annoyed, but it seems like after a restart it was working again... but later is stopped working once again. So for the past few days my keyboard has been working on and off, mostly off. By not working, I mean no lights, no key presses, nothing. I change USB ports and notice that sometimes when plugging it in I get a "USB device not recognized pop-up"

My first thought is obviously that the keyboard is faulty, it is kind of old anyway. I also realize that not only is it not working in windows, it isn't working in BIOS. Problem is, I've tested it on another PC and it works just fine, and I've tried a fully working keyboard on my PC with the same not working results. Now no keyboard at all works in BIOs or in Windows and I fear that EVERY usb port on my motherboard has gone fault which just seems ridiculously unlikely.

Please someone have some experience with this ridiculous problem.

what keyboard is it?I know that my G15 will not work whatsoever with one of my 939 rigs(winfast board),but it works fine with my other 939(DFI)and my Intel(DFI)

the keyboard name would help.

some fancier models do require drivers to get some features to work but you should always get basic functionality from the windows driver set.

if you are having issues with only usb based keyboards maybe pop the windows OS disk in and set it to repair, maybe you have a driver fault or a bad update etc.

have you tried a PS2 keyboard?

do your usb's work with other devices.... pen drives, printers, etc?

if you have any other usb devices like printers and usb pen drives remove them and see if you can replicate the issue this will eliminate your other usb devices causing issues

Try re-installing your motherboards USB drivers. On mine they were part of the NB drivers (so reinstalling that should do the same).

Alright, I'm considering that it may be a power problem seeing as when I unplugged my wired mouse and plugged just the keyboard in it worked, and then i could plug the mouse back in and both be working.

Right now the keyboard is wonky, and not working completely but my PC isn't horribly power intensive and I have a strong power supply. I'm going to do some more testing and see what I can do.

I had that with my G11, it's to do with OS, I re-installed and it worked fine.

usbs and most devices are not usually power hungry so i do not believe that you have a psu issue.

are you using a usb hub, extension we should know about? or are they plugged straight into the motherboard i/o panel usb ports or into a front panel with internal cabling to a usb header on the motherboard.

my razer lachesis will not work upon boot, i have to unplug and plug it back into my lycosa. No idea why but it works fine after that.

its a crappy none lcd or backlit keyboard and im using both the front panel and plugging it right into the motherboard to no avail. replugging it in doesnt do anything :(

if after reloading your usb drivers we do not get this fixed i think we should just put it down to witchcraft!

Does anyone have any clue what this could be? I haven't noticed any other problems, and I find it weird that the USB ports would go bad on my motherboard. If anyone has a solution please let me know, or any other things to try.

Alright I know it the third post in a row, but I'm stumped and desperate. Thoughts? It has to be a hardware problem at this point, would that be a fault motherboard or what? help

Do you have any front panel USB connectors that go to a different USB header on your mobo that you can try the keyboard in?

Dan

Already tried that, and it's the same story with the front connectors. 95% the keyboard won't work no matter what, and every so often I get lucky and it will work for a little bit.

Are there any jumpers on the mobo that control power to the USB headers? If so, you could try fiddling with those.

But short of that I'd be all for RMA'ing the motherboard at this point.

Dan

I RMAd the motherboard, and I just got it back. Somehow, keyboards still won't work. I'm going to throw it out of a window.
