Just saw this video :O

Interesting read indeed.
I was dead set on getting a 3570k and a z77 board but slowly I'm starting to think the 8350 or even 8320 would be a better choice. Now only thing left to do is to find a "good looking" board. From what I've seen so far Intel boards look better .

Sabertooth or Crosshair.

I think you'll find that very soon there will be more modern up to date boards given they'll sell well. Last two years have been bad for high end AMD boards tbh but now?

Once the enthusiast realises that he needs to be on AMD people will pay stupid prices for their boards again

I will look for the link and edit this post but i am pretty sure AMD "steamroller" cpus will be out end of summer. If not then the link will prove me wrong:p

At the price AMD are demanding for their 8 core CPUs now there's no point waiting.

Honestly £120 is not exactly the £300 Intel demand every time they release a new I7.

AMD are back with a product like the Athlon XP. Cheap as crap, kicks seven shades of poo out of games. What's lovely is you don't even have to wait to see what motherboard it will use because it's already been said that it's using AM3+ for at least Steamroller :)

Well usually newer mobos come with newer technology that the cpu supports so it may be worth waiting unless you don't care for them.

Yeah true.At least we're not ditching the important stuff like DDR3 and all of that just yet.

I tell you what really upset me man.. A friend of mine wants to switch to Piledriver (has a I5 2400) and there's no such thing as a MATX AM3+ board that has SATA III.

Honestly I couldn't believe that but after hours and hours of searching it just doesn't exist :(

They don't :/. It's mainly because they (the motherboard manufacturers and AMD themselves) believe that the boards wouldn't sell that well compared to the intel equivalents or even AMD's own FM2 socket APUS. There are quite a few FM1/2 mATX boards as you're probably aware. Intel have the market for performance MATX at the moment due to Bulldozer's legacy if you ask me :l. We may start to see AM3+ MATX boards if more people get AMD FXs and if Steamroller is a winner. A big winner.

The article on Eurogamer said that both AMD and Intel predicted 5-10% increases in performance with Haswell and Steamroller.

I just read yet another article about Piledriver in PCformat and it said that now the hot fix was in place the 6100 traded blows with the 3570 (non k) and the 8350 was up there with the 3770k in productivity.

I don't think AMD need another CPU right now, they just need people to get on the bandwagon and use it properly.

i personally will be waiting for steamroller as i have a fx6100, but i also want a shit hot motherboard too as mine sucks for overclocking. i would rather wait for the 25/30% performance increase (probably closer to 30% as i will be getting a 8 core)

I'm presuming you mean the 6300? the 6100 is a bulldozer chip and I'd be surprised that AMD would still be trying to fix the issues with poor ol' bulldozer :/. Also, does that mean that the 8320 could technically also be able to catch up to the 3770k or was this when they oc'd the 8350 to 5ghz (or above the OC ability of the 8320)?

I don't think Steamroller can improve on Piledriver by that much tbh. PD over BD was 15% which is quite substantial so I would be surprised if it goes that much again.

What's important is the price. If AMD get too carried away they'll end up with very expensive processors, and a sad fact of life is that near on all of the paying public won't pay anywhere near what they would pay for an Intel when it comes to AMD.

It's the same with their GPUs. Nvidia charge £800+ for a Titan yet AMD were torn to pieces for daring to charge £430 on launch for a 7970, even though the price was based on the 3gb 580.

AMD always did well when they had a world beating CPU yet charged bugger all for it. That's the only way they will truly pull away the Intelites tbh.

Barnsley - yeah typo lol

They've forgotten that completely with the centurion. I might buy one( if it comes out) just so that I can sell it as a priceless antique later on as I really doubt they'll sell well or sell at all. When AMD announce daft thing like these I can't help but feel that AMD will quite happily loose touch with their core market, us gamers who do not have the £1000s to spend on a high powered super rig.
