Just saw this, I couldn't stop being irritated.

Just saw this video called: "How to build a PC for Crysis 3" from IGN

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJx-C0-uL8c

These things irritated me:
Socket 2011 with a 3820 for gaming. -.-
A NVidia GPU for an AMD Optimised game.
16GBs of RAM for gaming.
AN OPTICAL DRIVE!!!
Calling the Enermax Ecomaster CPU cooler a "Monster"
The crappy instructions for starters.
The cable-management.
EDIT: Having the CPU Cooler mounted vertically. With the fan pushing air down.

If you find anything else annoying about this video, post it here and make sure to dislike the video ;)

Seems silly spending all of that money and no getting an SSD?
I suppose there's enough RAM to cache the OS, game and then some though.

omfg i think tom should do a vid on how to Properly build a rig to play crysis 3 lol and for the price they could of got a z77 256gb ssd etc

installing the heatsink the wrong oriantation, putting the paste onto the cooler? huh most if not all say to put it on the cpu and let the cooler spread it naturally...

my advice dont follow this build guide lol

3570k, 7870 Tahiti/7950/7970, 8gb ram, ssd, MSI board... Isn't that the usual (And sensible) recommendation for ANY Gaming PC..?

Pretty much...
But a lot of the time if people are spending a lot of money on a PC, they'd want just the brand of i7 over i5, regardless of the difference.
Also, the perception is probably similar with graphics cards with going for a mid-range card like the 7870 - even if mid-range these days still beats the high range cards of 2011.
You also get a lot of people that refuse to buy AMD - and on the Nvidia side, the 670 is the only option to really go for IMO.

Will it play Crysis 3 though? Yes.
Could you do it for cheaper? Yes.

Would the noobs that the video is aimed at want to build it cheaper? Probably not.

^^ Agreed.
Though there are so many things wrong with this guide apart from component sellection :p
The cooler mounting instructions sucked, the cable management sucked, the over-all instruction sucked etc.
I hope no-one will ever follow this, there are so many good guides out there, including the amazing guides from newegg, from which I learned a lot when I started wanting to build a pc.

well when i build pcs i put the motherboard in 1st before even putting the psu in its easier then to cable manage..

i didnt put my motherboard in AFTER i put the power supply in :(

The idea is you put the PSU in first, connect the power cable, then flick the switch off on the PSU.
That way you earth the entire case so you'll dissipate any static, and won't damage your components.

never did that nice to know for when i get my parts from aria and build my next rig hopefully sometime in the next few weeks still waiting on accounts...

thanks for the tip but ive never had any problems doing it my way :-/

I always go PSU first, since then I can route CPU 8 pin through the back of the motherboard tray... Just personal preference though...

I do it your way too normally.
I've never had any issues with static myself - just know that's why some people put the PSU in first.

my eyes started to bleed after they opened the case. I had to stop watching as I was about to puke as well.
