Jimmy's watercooled Scout

This is a build I did for my brother a few months back and he’s been asking me to take pics of it for his clan to see

Well I thought, you peeps could have a look as well

This originally housed a Core2Quad system but he upgraded to a corei7 2600k and a Maximus IV Gene-Z and wanted to try watercooling

At the time I had a spare XSPC Dual 750 kit doing nothing so we decided to give it a go

Looking inside I thought there was no way to fit a dual 120 radiator in there so it had to go on the outside

The handle had to stay so it was a choice of back or front and we decided it would be easiest to go through the front

This would mean losing two of the five optical bays but we only needed three for our purposes so that was ok

The radiator is held on by just the four screws where the front 120mm fan would sit and that was fun enough trying to get the screws in through the hard drive bays, which are not removable

Routing the tubing from the res/pump to the rad meant a long 180 bend to save from kinking and to give us the option of sliding the res forward in the drive bay for filling and topping up during setup

Getting the tubing the right length with the correct degree of bend wasn’t too difficult as this case is deep enough

Looks a bit of beast without the front panel so the brother made it fit again

I’ve still got the front cover for the bay, black or silver, what a choice

The almost finished product, it’s good enough to go anyway

Jimmy likes his flight sims and battle games, he’s currently on BF3 amongst others

The CPU isn’t overclocked, he just wants to game so it’s more than powerful enough as is and his average temps are 29~30 idle and 35~38 gaming, he reckons his CPU never hits 40

His current GPU is a HD5770 but he just picked up two HD6770 cards for a bargain so they will be going in soon in Crossfire

There is one final pic to come but it will just be a final touches thing covering up any holes

Not bad but

OMG... teh wires.... my eyes, they're bleeding

and thats why I always say dont get a M-ATX board in an ATX case!

Considering you've left the front panel off, I think it looks rather good tbh. Some other similar builds that I've seen in the past have looked dreadful, whereas this I could actually live with it on my desk.

dude get some dust filters,

my mate uses one of these cases and its sucks in more dust than his hoover.

interesting athestics...
