Ever had or heard of an EMG (electromyography) before? That's what Lake and co-founder Matt Bailey are using in their product. EMGs detect and translate electric signals that produce contractions in the muscle. When you move your finger, an electrical current is produced. So, how does the band work? It measures the electric signals your muscles are about to make, understanding the gesture before you even actually make a real hand gesture. The Myo knows you'll rotate your hand to turn up the volume before you actually rotate it.

Now the price for this amazing piece of tech is $149.00USD pre order at the moment, but shouldn't be long before we see this gracing our EU shores, I for one can not wait.

Hi. It's me, seekax, here to be the pessimistic prick.
I don't really see a whole lot of applications this thing would be useful for, plus at that price there has got to be a catch somewhere.
It's a toy really, i remember Cru buying something similar and he ended up selling it again after a couple of weeks. (Well it wasn't portable, only for the PC)

I mean come on people, we all know that we'd only use it to not get our keyboard greasy to increase the volume while eating crisps.

Hey dude how ya been, not seen much of you on here lately. Your pessimism is always appreciated, I am inclined to agree with your opinion.... but I could see this having real use in maybe DJing, presentations, some games... I do also like the idea of controlling RC vehicles with hand gestures.

Games will be Wii like, so no thank you, DJing will probably just get harder with that thing, and RC vehicles are toys. The only proper application is presentations, which could be done with a little remote instead.

As long as I have to stap something to my arm, leg, or face, anything like this just doesnt interest me. All of this could probably be done with a more advanced Kinect.

You need a camera with Kinect, this could be used anywhere.

I think this would be useful with VR games, as seen on mass effect.

Thats the thing. I dont mind a camera, because its not very obtrusive; it just sits somewhere. I'd never buy something that I have to strap to my arm or something.
