Japan Display unveils 651ppi VR oriented display

90% more pixels means 90% more GPU power unless we can get technologies to mitigate that increase. This is where Nvidia screws over everyone. If they just stay closed and offer alternative technology, not everyone will be on the same page which will slow adoption and raise the minimum performance threshold. Unless Nvidia is so far and away ahead, it causes a problem. And we know AMD aren't going to let this happen, so VR just keeps getting further and further away from many people

This is where technologies such as Foveated Rendering with eye tracking come in. By rendering only what you are looking at at 100% and dropping the render quality of the rest of the scene in concentric circles, Effectively reproducing what the eye does naturally.

Very true. But more tech can be created to further lower performance thresholds, but like I said, everyone needs to be on the same page. To much money being thrown in this market's way to have it just fail.

Just because you think it is doesn't mean it really is.
VR is driving technology and GPU architecture/power far greater than before it was around. It is pushing GPUs in particular forward massively which in turn means better chips which can be converted to a HPC/DataCenter/AI Research/etc which means more money and therefore better products for consumers sooner and cheaper along with advancements in other technology markets, which again means more profit. So no. It's factually not so stupid, however using it now in its current state and with current amount/quality of games, it could be argued it is, won't last forever though.

To me VR is stupid and same for when 3D was a thing too. Your not going to change how i feel about it.

Why do you feel like you need to quote be and try and force your opinion on to me just cause you don't like i'm saying.

It's great for the people who like it but i still think it's stupid.

I imagine mostly because you feel the need to plaster said opinion around all over the place oftentimes as though it's fact... then when someone goes against said opinion, this happens.

The reason why i say "In My Opinion" is cause it's my opinion and i don't expect people to agree with me also i don't try and force my own opinion/thoughts on to the person.
 
3D was a total waste of time.


VR has some seriously cool possibilities and they have not even scratched the surface yet.

Its definitely not going anywhere.... Its going to evolve and be as common as your monitor. Hell if done right it could actually replace it.
 
Damn, Wonder what the res would be on a headset and how much horsepower this thing needs to run at 90FPS levels :eek:

IMO VR is die and there will be something that will replace it and i for one can't wait until it happens it's called the Holodeck and it's going to be way cooler than VR.

Yes i'm a Star Trek nerd.

I quoted because I was talking specifically to you. Sorry if that upsets you. I didn't force any opinion. I stated a fact, then proceeded to really just appease you and gave perspective on your opinion, but fact will still overcome eventually even if your opinion is the same or wrong.

If you don't like hearing my opinion or others facts/opinions, don't bother always posting "in my opinion and don't argue with me because I don't care what you have to say" and come off as cold. You post either that or you just say something negative about a product or company. So yes, people are going to respond to you. It's a internet forum. Don't get hot when someone tries to say something you don't like, you do this all the time. I was having a simple conversation, don't look into it.


I agree VR has amazing potential. Probably more applications outside of gaming tbh

Im more interested in AR. Was really hoping Google Glass would become something. As in pretty much no visible hardware. Doesnt even need to be able to do much :D After all, people already pay thousands just to have a clock on their wrists. I dont see why not the eyes.

Bring on the SAO level of VR. We dont need our brains :D

KoOS, I have no idea what you're like in real life, but on here do do come across as a very negative person. You reply to every new article and thread with a negative opinion, and it seems you go out of your way to think of something bad to say about any new development or product. I have no idea what actually makes you happy, as you seem to take no joy at all from anything new or innovative unless it is of interest to you. It's a strange attitude to have on a technology based forum that actively enjoys new technology.

All in my opinion, of course, which means using your logic I am completely entitled to say it and you will not take any offence at anything I have said.
 
3D was mint when it was good. I loved L4D2 in 3D. Pipe bombage FTW !

I do want VR having had a taste of it with my phone. It's pretty much just 3D on your head.

Waiting for the M$ headset.
