Got in tonight from the pub hoping to chill and play a little football manager 08 before bed. Saw I had 16 new mails since early afternoon (more than normal) and figured i'd check them... Or not!!

Couldn't get into my hotmail so I checked with my girlfriend whether she could get into hers, which she could no problem so I started to get a lil

ed off and worried but I thought naaaaa how could anyone hack my account. Anyway so I after I tried to go to 'forgot my password' and answer my secret question.. It turns out my secret question is now in Chinese and I have no way of answering it.

... Next thing to think of was check my ebay.. Couldn't get into that either. I was thinking HTF can they get into that?? The password is different to ANYTHING I have on anything else... Ya wanna know how?? Ebay has the biggest pile of bull

security going.. If you click on forgot my password it asks you 4 or 5 questions of which you ONLY HAVE TO ANSWER TWO OF!!! Ok so when you are asked to do a secret question and answer you think that will go a long way to keeping you safe?? Think again when all they have to answer is TWO of the questions which are as easy as date of birth, post code or primary phone number which are possibly the easiest things to answer if they have hacked your email account.

That sort of security is ok if its not such an important site but they have my cred card details and my debit card details and just happily sent the

er my ebay password after only furnishing my DOB and post code??? What an F'in joke!!

Anyway this was all an hour ago so i've come on here to change my email addy and password temporarily until I get control of my hotmail back. I've also changed my ebuyer, amazon and other

but hotmail and ebay I can't get. Oooooo don't get me started on Myspace... I don't use the

ing site but i'm happy I don't.. If you wanna change your email address on that... It sends an email to your OLD address for you to confirm it??? Perfect!!

There is more I wanted to rant about but pah i'm just tired now... All I wanted was to take Leeds to the premiership and I get this headache!

M$ swallowed my hotmail account.

Got zero way of getting it back.

Just coz it wouldn`t integrate with windowsmail, I couldn`t use the account.iaf file I had for it. Seeing as I couldn`t remember the password, I had to use an xp machine to get them to email it to me on oe. Then I changed it and went on using vista.

Whilst I`m on vista it was cookied. I subsequently ditch vista for various reasons and can I remember what I changed the pass to ? can I eff. Well I actually think I can, and can remember the personal stuff it asks u - but the portal won`t accept it. Stuff like where ur mom was born or something - can`t exactly get it wrong. Won`t have it tho.

I actually think it was deliberate. Cos all the time I was using the account I got spam all over the place about the lovely windows live and emailing and premium accounts and all that tosh. Just cos I took no interest I spect.

Rubbish news about losing your details!

I set up a hotmail account when it first came out but when GMail surfaced I swiftly leapt onto that and have never looked back. It's infinately better than hotmail in every way! Only still have my HM for MSNM purposes.

i would suggest giving the bank a ring though, even if you just request that they dont allow transactions of over £XX for a while rather than cancelling all of your cards.

Did that last night.

It works out to something about pets but my answers don't work.

I have since regained control of my ebay account after being in chat with them for an hour+... Turns out someone has been busy in the few hours they had had my account. They had started 7 auctions for UGG Boots and two had already sold... The auctions were £50 buy it now with all the bells and whistles making a total of £48 in listing fees...

Anyway had them all canceled and refunded the fees as well as making up some bs info in all my details to stop anyone having a chance of getting in again. All I need now is my Hotmail back!! Its the most important thing and they still haven't contacted me. Its crap service!

Think i'll invest in a decent mail account.

Dude that sucks hardcore. My parents recently went through this as well. They just called the bank and insurance companies and things where fine. Then my dad proceeded to "find out" who did it. Needless to say they wont be doing that again.

Ok I've now got control of my ebay and my hotmail again all with different passwords... When my new cards arrive i've gotta spend an evening sorting everything out again and decide on a password set.

Anyway its been about 6 hours of aggro I could have done without.

I had 47 new emails most of which from ebay with regard changing my password and then setting up a mass of auctions also a load from me going around last night changing all I could.. Lots of notifications of those changes. Seems they hadn't signed in today.. Will get a lil surprise when they no longer have access to any of it!

About 00:30 last night (well this morning but meh) they tried to log in again and sent a request to change password just as I happened to be going through my emails.. I rejected it.

I imagine they tried to sign in and couldn't make out why they couldn't get in so tried to reset the password.

The worst bit is I'm proper paranoid now.. I have been using that account for 6 years without bother but now I'm all like ooo I wonder if this will be safe enough.. I've now got something like a 10 - 13 digit password

Anywho, apologies TTL and team for the necro thread.

I had one of those spam emails today that everyone gets at some point "ooo we've seen you doing unmentionable things on your webcam which we hacked, send us $1000000 bitcoin blah blah blah"..

Well I've never had a webcam (I know right? ), so meh, but beside that what the scammers like to also do today is include a password they've got that you've used before and say they got into your email with it.

Typically it's from age-old systems where you can use something as simple as Kali default tools to trawl for dbs that give up their info. What was weird to me is the email had my password for oc3d forum in it - how odd (I tend to use a password and include among the gibberish something that gives me a clue what it's for). I tried it and it worked, fine, my last login was 2015!!! sheesh back in the days when I had time.... obviously the scammers have no idea what site the password it used for, it's just one of thousands in a file, they just use it as part of a threat.

So I changed my password today anyway, but obviously it's doing it's rounds. Weirdly, in my spam box was the same verbatim email but an original password from an online game I played in 2001! I know for a fact the forum for that game was hacked for it's logins.

What you playing games with?

Well, if anyone remembers me, I tend to use linux (used to be mac) as my daily driver, and game on a windows box that just does games. Recently upgraded to:

New shiney Asrock Z790 Nova
i9 14900
Too much memory
Still use 3080ti (waiting for 5xxxx series)
pcie4 ssds in raid0
... all stupidly overclocked ofc and tamed with some high air flow. Also if you remember me, I'm not big on cases, I use a rack mount and the rack has dampening modded in it - so noise aint too much of an issue.

Tbh the biggest issue I had was taming Windows 11 and the vendors' software that doesn't exactly work properly on it - but anywho, I got past that and the rig works lovely. Win11 is pretty stripped down.

But yeah, no real time for anything other than work and grabbing the odd couple of hours to game. But sorry scammers, no I've not used a webcam, so that kinda won't work with me
