ITX Hackintosh

Heya guys!

So the time has come that the PC in my signature will soon be gone. My mate is coming to pick her up on Monday, which means that I will finally have the cash to fund my ITX build.

Now, the build will feature a black & white colour scheme, and I want to toss in a couple of bright green accents. It will also run both W8.1 and OS X so a Gigabyte motherboard is a must (and that's also the reason I decided to go with 2x1Tb drives rather than one large drive).

This is my spec list as I have it right now. Anything you guys would change, or possibly hardware with similar performance that can be found for cheaper?

The reason I went with the Xeon is because of the Hyperthreading and the attractive pricing. I'm not much of an overclocker/gamer anyway and rig will mainly be used for productivity.

I already have a case (White Phenom ITX), some RAM (2x4GB Vengeance Low Profile white (thanks Etlar) and a white cable kit (with the exception of the 24 pin).

The ACX cooler will be painted and I want to make a backplate for it. It's also the only non-reference cooler with a closed shroud on the top and bottom and easiest to mod I think.

Going for the Spectre Pros as I want similar fans throughout the build and they're one of the few that do 230mm ones, also the fan housings are easy to remove for painting and from what I've heard they're alright fans.

Any thing you guys would strongly advice me against or just change in general? Let me know!

Thanks

From my experience, The thing to watch out for when building a Hackintosh is the GPU support. So before you buy a gpu i suggest you to check out if there are kexts that fully support your gpu

Hmmm the card (actually this exact one apparently) is in Tonymac's August build guide list:

If they can get them to work, I should be able to as well.

I think any card form the GTX 600 series and up should work.

I'm going to install os x (mountain lion, because i know 100% that there are kexts available for my gpu on that version) on my pc today.

Whats the reason you want to have os x on your pc? last time i have installed it i had no use for it.

I expect a few problems with my amd cpu and gtx 570

Intel does work best, probably because Apple uses Intel chips exclusively themselves.

The reason I want OS X is that I'm taking a 4 year course of Art & Technology, so having multiple OSs is great, but at the school they use OS X as well. To add to that, I did find that for music production/editing OS X is simply nicer to work with (or in my personal experience at least).

So I take it the spec list looks good then? :)
Might have to swap out the GPU after a recent thread though.

Specs look good to me, esp the Gigabyte motherboard. Mind if I ask what website you are ordering from? I saw it was a dutch site, so I was wondering.

The webshop is called Azerty. They tend to be one of the cheaper ones together with 4Launch, however I had a bad experience with the latter when building the PC for my sister, so this time I've decided to give my money to the competition :)
