It's all Rad's, Fans, pumps, and tubes.....

Hey Guys,

So I have my gaming rig for about 2+ months now, and I've run into a small issue, during extended play my system was shutting down without warning.... I did the usual troubleshooting, checking windows logs in event viewer but nothing appears to be wrong with the software side, only notices about the system shutting down unexpectedly.

So I thought it could be software related, so a quick wipe and reinstall of Windows on the SSD and it's fine again, once I install everything and get BF3 up and running it shuts down again.

I remove the side of the case and take a look around, as the air from the top exhaust fan is very warm... yet the intake fan is pulling really cool air in, on inspection the CPU cooler (Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro Rev 2), is cool to touch.... fins and heatpipes! But the GFX cards are really, really warm... Hot I would even say, Number 1 more so than 2.

Yet the fans on the GFX cards don't really seem to kick in as I game, its like the system doesn't break a sweat... yet the cards to touch are hot. So I decided to run the system for a few days with the side panel removed, and as expected no shutdown's... during game play the cards get hot, but the ambient / internal case temp is far lower and air is more free flowing.

I have therefore come to the conclusion that the reference cooler cards are the problem, for now I have removed the window from the side of the case and replaced it with the supplied Corsair mesh. So that I can resolve this problem I'm looking at alternative cooling methods, I;ve watched the TTL beginner video;s which are great, but still not sure what to go for.

Install will be pretty straight forward I think on this case, but what works best and is reasonably priced..... what will I need for adequate cooling of:

1 x AMD Phenom II X6 1090T CPU

2 x Ati 6970's GPU's

I understand there are single water blocks for GPU's a full waterblock that also covers the RAM etc, a single or twin pump set up, single or twin reservoir set ups as above, one for a seperate CPU loop and the other for both GPU's? How many fans, what controller?

Any help that you guys can give would be greatley appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

in t6hat case not alot can be done without modding it. You might get a 240mm rad on top and maybe in the front if you remove the hdd cages. I would think dual 240's should tame those heaters ya have in the case. I wouldnt worry to much about adding the cpu into it as AMD proc tend to stay cooler than intels. Another option is to setup a fan profile that allows the fan to ramp up a lil more than its been doing since you say they dont as of now.

The final suggestion I have is get those bloody heaters out and replace them with Nvidia cards

OK, so forgive my n00bie nature, what are 240's and where do I get them from? IS there any suppliers out there that do 1 CPU + 2 GPU kits ready to go, or should I buy the components seperately?

I wanted the CPU included because of possible overclocking in the near future

It is winter you know and If I put the Nvidia cards in, the room will be colder and potentially noisier?

240 basic term for dual 120mm rads. no there are no suppliers that'll make kits like that just way to many possibilities for different ratios to do it cost effectively. so you'll have to buy everything separately. That is where its gonna start adding up on you. If you want to do cpu and both gpu's then unless you plan on loosing ur drive bays (all of them) you'll prolly have to get another case. as space is limited in the 600T you should be able to get a 360 3x120mm rad) in front like I did on my sniper and a 240 in toe roof. (after a bit of modding looks like it should work) this should imho tame them puppies down abit. Now back to reality here for a min AMD processors will oc just fine with a decent air cooler. So I'd say D-14 it and 360mm rad the gpu's. I dont think you'll see any more ocability putting it under water. unless you really want to pump the vcore but you should get a decent 4GHz with moderate volts and good temps with a d-14 (BTW if ya D-14 forget about trying to use roof for a rad) So that said D-14 ur cpu and 360mm rad ur gpu's if you stick with that case.

Now Nvidia's are quieter than AMDs for the most part and I can say of my cards I have owned in my years opf comp building I have never had an Nvidia that was louder than an AMD unless I made it that way.

Ok further thoughts have you re-timmed the gpu's yet??? May make a world of difference and save ya several hundred dollars as wc'n aint cheap if done right. Also look into that fan profile I mentioned in my first reply maybe a few% more fan speed willl resolve ur issues as well.

Oh and last thought lmao you want cold air in ur room for any comp cooling not warm helps with temps lol when its cold here say 40-ish outside my idle temps drop almost 10c load about 5-10 depending on load

This would definitely be my first option. Download a copy of MSI Afterburner - you can set a temp/rpm profile via a graphical interface - its very cool.

yup with that case I'd be doing the same lol afterburner is great for custom fan profiles

OK thanks guys, I did download MSi Afterburner originally, but took one look at it and then never used it.

The CCC or AMD Vision engine as it stands does not have any options for custom fan profiles, which is such a shame. Thanks for the advice on the CPU cooler and the watercooling for GPU's... just not sure what to do now, money wise.... I can get parts off people for christmas so that shouldn't be too much of an issue, I just need to look at a list of whats needed.

So far with the mesh side panel and not the plexi glass, its not shut down once..so looks like it is heat related

But I want my window back, I need something to lick lol
