Ok so I just installed a new psu, everything was working fine, I've been using my computer all evening.

Then I get a strange out of memory error, so I reboot the system and I get a beep code. Two short beeps and four short beeps.

I was trying to find the meaning of the code however, that seems to be rather moot now as, since playing with the memory sticks, its gone completely dead!

Any ideas?

first the obvious reseat everything , what caused you to replace the psu??? kinda sounds like ur memory croaked maybe the rail that handle the volts to the mem was off and fried it.

I got a new psu because my previous one was loud. I got a "be quiet" pure power 550w because people told me that a cheaper one might fry the system!

What's concerning me most is that it's gone completely dead. Shouldn't there be some life in it, even if things aren't seated properly.

if the power parts arent seated good it can be flakey. Pull and replug all ur cables.

you might wanna try this:

reinstall old power supply, verify operation. OK?

recheck 24-pin (mobo power), 8-pin (EPS), video card power on

new psu did you use original wall power cord or new power cord?

normally not a bad thing but if you had an el cheapo one before I wouldnt i always try and use what comes with the psu. As amp ratings can be different between them.

I cant remember the codes but i think that 2 long and 4 short on amd boards is the ram problem, try maybe just one stick, do you have memok?

try the old psu and if it works then rma the be quiet one

Cheers all, it's working again. Don't really know what happened, but I changed the power lead and it started up with no memory error. The only thing I can think is that there was some temporary memory error (there was quite a bit of dust from thermal paste on one of the sticks), and then as I was fixing that, coincidentally, the fuse in the first kettle lead blew.

So alls well that ends well, thanks again for the advice and sympathy.

(Although truthfully,l part of me is disappointed that I don't have an excuse to upgrade now

)
