I've looked into what is on the PCB. Its all fairly std stuff. The USB interface chip has been replaced by a pin compatible successor, the only thing I cant tell is whether the PIC (the bit that 'runs' things on the PCB)has had its security link 'blown' - in which case there's no way of telling what is in it. You'd have the prospect of monitoring all the inputs to it and figuring out what the outputs do, then writing your own code to replicate it - or do even better. Fairly straightforward stuff, but time consuming and you need the right gear. The parts on the PCB add up to less than £30 in say 100 off quantities. I know the present design aint great for swapping to better fans, but as I aint powered mine up yet, I dont have a 'wish list' for improvements yet.
