Is Vista worth it?

jesus, i've just upgraded to vista and had nothing but hassle with it, been up every bloody night til 1am trying to get it running properly, finally fixed the upgrade problem and left it upgrading overnight to wake this morning with a dead pc, guess what i'll be doing tonight. surely Vista can't be this bad!?

You must have done something wrong?

I've got 4 computers on Vista now. 2 on 64 bit, and 2 on 32bit. Not one problem, well maybe one or two with my Dell wifi drivers but it's okay now.

I don't like going back to XP now.. Seems faster for me than XP. I just turn off some of the crap you don't need just like I did on XP.

i only have 32bit home basic which came with the dodgy corrupted windows update, fixed that last night and it had 63 updates so left it overnight to install, now it wont boot. gonna throw the vista cd in and do a repair tonight then do the updates again 1 by 1.

if you having that many problems, i'd just do a full reinstall. Skip the repair. May be better in the long run.

I never had any problems with my pc.

NONE at all.

And I'm the guy who tinkers about with stuff inside my pc case.

'Unscrew this; unscrew that; take the heatsink off of the 8400GS".

Seriously and not a single BSOD or anything.

And this is me without turning off stuff like superfetch and etc.

I have my share of problems with Vista, I turned some stuff off, but left quite a bit on. Part of the problem is that the Stiker II extreme seems to hate the RAM (I also had one bad stick) and I can't overclock the pc as much as I would like, with enough volts for stability because of the temperatures.

Good luck with the reinstall.

That's another thing about XP I liked, I could reinstall in under half an hour, with another hour at most getting everything else onto the system.

phew, all updates installed no problems, god knows what happened first time round??

Probably some thing that Vista has against your hardware.

Atleast this time the have a peace treaty :)

I've been using Vista 64bit Business SP1 for awhile and I haven't had any problems with it. I did a fresh install and it recognized all of my hardware the very first time. Plus I'm running it on a much older system with limited memory. (I only purchase new systems every five years or so. I'm overdue for a new one.)

Athlon 64

3gb RAM

8800 gt 512mb PCIe

650w house brand power supply

250gb drive

It runs everything I've thrown at it and then some. No crashes yet and I've done some very esoteric and techie stuff with the harddrive as well. (I enjoy digging into an OS.) Plus I've run everything from Bioshock to Fallout 3 at full resolution/effects/eye candy without any slowdowns except in cases where I knew it was due to drive access speed. (The motherboard only allows SATA1 connections.)

I have Vista ultimate, never had a problem after a year, used XP since it first came out, Vista is more stable !!

I guess that I should have realised that it would take that much time

stupid thing to say.

I will now go and sit in the corner :D

7 should be released late 09 early 2010 ;) if everything goes to plan

OP here, I've had vista running for a month or two now, no problems, started out a bit bloaty but a quick bit of trimming and its running well.

re: windows 7 - yeh, looks like Q1 2010, with updates licences w/vista (OEM only, I think) from July?
