Is this normal

Hi,

Is it usual for my 4770k to be rolling back to 800Mhz whilst idle? I'm trying to get a bit of data on temperatures to for when I overclock. I'm using a h100i with some quiet edition sp120's and getting temperatures of ~30C ish.

This sounds like E1ST, basically it just reduces the clock speed when idle to reduce power and what not, With ivy and sandy it went to 1600mhz, I guess with haswell it goes back to 800

For overclocking would you suggest turning it off?

use prime95 or occt to get load temps to collect data
and it's recommended to turn all power saving features off when overclocking
leaving them on can cause the overclock to be unstable

So i've turned it off now and I get 3.5Ghz. Buzzin'. Can't help but think my temperatures of 35C idle on a h100i at stock are a bit high?

that is pretty normal
but as said, load temps are what you want to look at

So EIST turns off Turbo Boost aswell by the looks of it. Much appreciate your helps guys! Prime 95 temps just short of 60C.
